After Your Hospital Stay for Craniotomy
Learn what to expect after your hospital stay for craniotomy.
Anatomy of a Normal Spine
The spinal column is a stack of bones (vertebrae) that are separated by soft pads of tissue (disks). Each of these bones has a canal that runs top to bottom. Together these canals form a tunnel called the spinal canal.
Anatomy of the Brain
The brain controls the body. You can move and feel because of the brain. And it is the brain that makes you able to think, to show emotions, and to make judgments. The brain is protected by the skull, tissue, and fluid.
Arteriovenous Malformation (AVM)
You have been told that you have an arteriovenous malformation (AVM). An AVM is an abnormal tangle of blood vessels within the brain. Although some AVMs never rupture, both known factors (such as an increase in blood pressure) and unknown factors can lead to rupture. If you have an AVM, you were probably born with it. But most people don't know they have one until a problem happens.
People with spinal cord injury (SCI) may be at risk for a serious problem called autonomic dysreflexia (AD). If you have an SCI at level T6 or higher, you should be aware of this problem and how it could affect you.
AVM: Preparing for Surgery
Here you will find out how to prepare for AVM surgery, what to expect the day of surgery, and the risks of surgery.
AVM: Recovering from Surgery
After AVM surgery is completed, the surgeon will talk with your family and friends. You'll wake up in a recovery area. Then you'll be moved to a special unit, often an ICU (Intensive Care Unit), where you can be closely monitored.
Behavior Changes After Brain Injury
Biopsy for a Brain Tumor
If you've been diagnosed with a brain tumor, the next step may be a brain tumor biopsy. This will help find out whether the tumor is cancerous and how it should be treated.
Bleeding Brain Aneurysms
Understand what a bleeding aneurysm can do to your brain cells.
