Dennis Lynn Morris, MD, Appointed Chairman, Division of Cardiology, Albert Einstein Medical Center
Philadelphia, PA, February 10, 2003–
Dennis Lynn Morris, MD, has been appointed Chairman, Division of Cardiology, and Director of Einstein Heart Institute at Albert Einstein Medical
Center. Dr. Morris, who will oversee all clinical activities in the Heart Institute, will assume his new role on February
15.
Dr. Morris joins Einstein from the Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown, PA, where he has served as the Chief of Cardiology
since 1989. He has held other leadership positions, including Chief of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratories and Director
of Interventional Cardiology at Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Hershey, PA. Dr. Morris’ special areas of interest are interventional
cardiology and the management of heart attack. He has been involved in research to prevent in-stent restenosis, renarrowing
of a coronary vessel following implantation of a stent. His research includes the use of drug-eluting stents (stents coated
with an immunosuppressant agent that inhibits cell growth) and brachytherapy (administering radiation to the blocked area
of the blood vessel to block cell growth). These therapies help patients avoid multiple angioplasties or open-heart surgery.
Dr. Morris has also studied vascular endothelial growth factor, a promising technology to grow new blood vessels and hopefully
lessen symptoms of angina.
Dr. Morris received his medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston, SC. He completed his internship
and residency training in the Department of Medicine at the University of Virginia Hospital, Charlottesville, VA. Dr. Morris
served as Chief Medical Resident, Department of Medicine, at the University of California, San Francisco, CA, where he also
completed his fellowship in cardiology. In addition, he was a research fellow at the Cardiovascular Research Institute, University
of California, San Francisco.
Dr. Morris has authored and co-authored articles and abstracts on a variety of cardiac topics. He is a member of numerous
professional associations and is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology; Council on Clinical Cardiology, American
Heart Association; American College of Chest Physicians; and the Society for Cardiac Angiography and Interventions.
Albert Einstein Healthcare Network, a member of the Jefferson Health System, provides healthcare services through Albert Einstein
Medical Center, Germantown Community Health Services, Willow Terrace (a nursing home), MossRehab, Willowcrest (a center for
subacute care), Belmont Behavioral Health and a number of outpatient and satellite locations. Einstein also operates a primary
care network, Einstein Neighborhood Healthcare.
