"The Search Committee of Einstein’s Board has selected an outstanding leader to carry on the mission and vision of Einstein,"
said Jack F. Adler Jr., Chairman, Board of Trustees, Albert Einstein Healthcare Network. "In his nearly 25 years at Mount
Sinai, Barry demonstrated strong leadership skills in an urban healthcare environment, experience that makes him well suited
for his position at Einstein. His stellar credentials and the respect expressed by his colleagues and peers truly impressed
the search team."
Jefferson Health System (JHS) Chief Executive Officer Joseph T. Sebastianelli, who is also a member of the Einstein Search
Committee, noted, "Barry is a highly respected healthcare executive with a national reputation for his collaborative relationships
and a strategic focus that made him the search committee’s clear candidate of choice. We are very excited about Barry joining
Einstein and the Jefferson Health System in this key strategic position." The Jefferson Health System Compensation Committee
approved Einstein’s recommendation to appoint Mr. Freedman as its new President and CEO.
As President and CEO, Mr. Freedman will have strategic responsibility for Albert Einstein Healthcare Network, a private, not-for-profit
organization with six major facilities including approximately 1,000 hospital beds and many outpatient centers. Einstein,
with nearly 6,000 employees and 1,200 staff and voluntary physicians, is a founding member of the Jefferson Health System.
"I have certainly known of Einstein’s fine reputation and its many recognizable programs such as cardiac care, geriatrics
and MossRehab," said Mr. Freedman. "Although we still face challenges ahead with the malpractice insurance crisis and onerous
state budget cuts looming, I see enormous opportunity, with Einstein’s very committed Board and its strongly motivated medical
staff and management, to forge a new strategic direction for this organization."
Mr. Freedman, 54, held a number of management positions at The Mount Sinai Medical Center and Health System, which includes
The Mount Sinai Hospital. Prior to serving as President and CEO of The Mount Sinai Hospital, he served as Executive Vice President
of The Mount Sinai Medical Center and Health System, where he was responsible for the management of a 1,171-bed hospital,
with a budget of $900 million and 7,500 employees. He also served as interim Chief Executive Officer and President of Mount
Sinai NYU Health, a regional health system with approximately $2 billion in operating revenue. He formerly held the position
of Chief Operating Officer at Mount Sinai NYU Health.
At The Mount Sinai School of Medicine, Mr. Freedman was appointed Research Associate Professor in the Department of Health
Policy and Acting Chairman in the Department of Healthcare Management.
He has been honored by the The Mount Sinai Alumni Association for community service and was recognized by the American Hospital
Association as New York State’s Health Care Leader for the 21st Century.
Mr. Freedman has been a member of numerous professional associations. He has served as Board Chairman of the Greater New York
Hospital Association, the League of Voluntary Hospitals, and also the Board of Governors of Premier Health Alliance. He has
been a member of the Board of Governors of the Hospital Association of New York State and of the Board of Directors of Healthfirst.
Mr. Freedman, a native of Long Island, NY, received his MBA from the City University of New York/Baruch College, Mount Sinai
School of Medicine and his BA from the University of Wisconsin.
Mr. Freedman and his wife Meryl will relocate to Philadelphia. The couple’s adult children, 24-year-old twins, work and reside
in New York City.
Albert Einstein Healthcare Network, a member of the Jefferson Health System, provides healthcare services through Albert Einstein
