Einstein’s Emergency Department—Now Philadelphia’s Largest—Completes $10 Million Renovation and Expansion
Philadelphia, PA., December 8, 2003– After a year-long $10 million expansion and renovation, Albert Einstein Medical Center’s Emergency Department, located at
5501 Old York Road, now has 48 patient rooms, including 39 private rooms. All patient rooms have phones and televisions. The
23,000 square foot facility is the largest Emergency Department in the City of Philadelphia.
Einstein’s renovated Emergency Department also offers patients upgraded medical equipment and technology. To make sure patients
can receive imaging studies (X-Rays) as quickly as possible, the facility now has two diagnostic imaging rooms and a CT scan
suite. The real-time, infrared patient tracking system, the first and only such system in Philadelphia, gives physicians and
nurses quick access to patients’ medical information, such as the status of lab tests and imaging studies.
Einstein invested $10 million to expand and renovate the Emergency Department because patient volume has doubled since the
facility was built in 1984. Volume is expected to increase 12 percent more over the next six years.
Albert Einstein Healthcare Network, a member of the Jefferson Health System, provides healthcare services through Albert Einstein
Medical Center, Germantown Community Health Services, Willow Terrace (a nursing home), MossRehab at Tabor Road, MossRehab
at Elkins Park, Willowcrest (a center for subacute care), Belmont Behavioral Health and a number of outpatient and satellite
locations. Einstein also operates a primary care network, Einstein Neighborhood Healthcare. For more information about Einstein’s
