
H. Hank Simms, MD, Appointed Chairman, Department of Surgery, Albert Einstein Medical Center
Philadelphia, PA, March 29, 2005– H. Hank Simms, MD, has been appointed Chairman of the Department of Surgery at Albert Einstein Medical Center.
Dr. Simms comes to Albert Einstein Medical Center from North Shore-Long Island Jewish Medical Center where he served as Chairman
and Surgeon-in-Chief of the Department of Surgery. Dr. Simms also held the position of John D. Mountain Professor of Surgery,
New York University School of Medicine and Professor of Surgery at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. His areas of interest
are general and cancer surgery.
Dr. Simms is board-certified in general surgery and surgical critical care. In addition to having a surgical practice, he
will oversee all of the Department of Surgery activities including management of the surgical residency and fellowship training
programs at Einstein.
He received his medical degree from George Washington University, Washington, DC. Dr. Simms completed an internship and
residency in surgery at Beth Israel Hospital, Boston, MA. He completed a fellowship in trauma surgery and critical care medicine
at Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems, Baltimore, MD. In addition, Dr. Simms completed a research
fellowship at the National Institute of Allergy & Infectious Diseases, Laboratory of Clinical Investigation, National Institutes
of Health.
He has co-authored papers on a wide range of surgical topics. Dr. Simms is a member of numerous professional associations
including the American Medical Association, Eastern Association for the Society of Trauma, Society of Critical Care Medicine
and the Association for Academic Surgery.
