Nadine Uplinger Elected to the Board of Directors of the American Association of Diabetes Educators
Philadelphia, PA, August 2, 2005– Nadine Uplinger, Director of the Gutman Diabetes Institute at Albert Einstein Medical Center, has been elected to the Board
of Directors of the American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE).
AADE is a national organization of more than 10,000 health professionals. Diabetes educators are nurses, dietitians, pharmacists,
exercise physiologists, among others, who teach the skills required to manage diabetes. They help create a personalized plan
for each patient, based on age, school or work schedule, daily activities, medications, or any special medical conditions.
In her new leadership role, Uplinger will help guide AADE as it continues to advance diabetes self-management training and
lifestyle management strategies necessary to lower the incidence of diabetes. “As a new board member, I will work to create
more opportunities for healthcare professionals to learn about diabetes management during their formative years of training
as well as at the worksite,” says Uplinger.
Uplinger has held a variety of volunteer leadership positions within the association. At the national level, she served as
the secretary of the Chapter President’s Council, and as treasurer of the Pregnancy/Reproductive Health Specialty Practice
Group. At the local level, she served as president of the Tri-State Association of Diabetes Educators from 2001 to 2004.
Uplinger has been Director of Einstein’s Gutman Diabetes Institute since it opened in 2001.
