Northeast Resident Creates "Biggest Loser" Contest at
Albert Einstein Medical Center
Philadelphia, PA, April 24, 2006 - Northeast resident Jane Lodise, RN, was inspired by the hit NBC show “The Biggest Loser” to start a similar contest on
her unit at Albert Einstein Medical Center. Lodise is a charge nurse on Einstein's Postpartum and Newborn Nursery Unit. Lana
Bryant, an Operating Room Scrub Technician, was on the “DR Divas” team which lost the most weight, and Bryant was the “biggest
individual “loser.”
In early January, Lodise decided she wanted to get fit and found out that there were a lot of staff members on her unit who
also wanted to trim down. She organized 72 employees from the Women's Unit into 18 teams, with each team choosing the weight
loss plan they wanted to follow. The teams weighed in every four weeks by staff selected as “official weighers.” “The best
part of the contest is that it brought staff together from different service lines and we helped each other stay motivated,”
says Lodise. Lodise made significant changes in her life by joining a gym and Weight Watchers. “Knowing that people at work
are also striving to lose weight, has been a big help in keeping me on track,” she says. The “biggest loser” team was the
“DR Divas,” with a combined weight loss of 55.6 pounds. Overall, the 18 teams lost a total of 389 pounds.
