Albert Einstein Healthcare Network Offers Patient Safety Graphics To Entire Hospital Community
Graphics Package Promotes National Patient Safety Goals
Philadelphia, PA, August 9, 2006 – Healthcare institutions and organizations are invited to view, download and use specialized graphic elements designed and
used at Albert Einstein Healthcare Network in Philadelphia to promote the 2007 National Patient Safety Goals.
“We wanted to make the Goals immediately accessible to the almost 7,000 people in our Network” noted Steven Merahn, MD, Vice
President of Marketing and Communications. “So we created a ‘visual vocabulary’ for patient safety and it’s had a remarkable
impact on recall among staff”
The graphic elements are being utilized as part of a larger, on-going effort to promote patient safety at Albert Einstein
Healthcare Network. They may be viewed on the Internet at http:/www.einstein.edu (left hand column, click on Patient Safety
Graphics).
The graphic elements include a poster highlighting eight key guidelines of the National Patient Safety Goals and eight individual
graphics addressing:
- Access and Share Medical Information
- Accurate Patient Identification
- Secure Medical Information
- Effective Caregiver Communications
- Protect Fragile Patients
- Reduce Flu and Pnu
- Reduce Infection Risk
- Stop Pressure Ulcers
“These graphics really brought the patient safety goals to life,” added Jeffrey Cohn, MD, Vice President and Chief Quality
Officer. “We saturated the patient care environment with the graphics and it is an excellent example of using the power of
creative communications strategies to achieve high levels of knowledge transfer”
Albert Einstein Healthcare Network, a member of the Jefferson Health System, provides healthcare services through Albert Einstein
