Albert Einstein Healthcare Network Adds Career Path To Workforce Development Programs

State Supports Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) Training Program

Philadelphia, PA, November 3, 2006 – Recognizing their vital role in healthcare, a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) training program has been established by Albert Einstein Healthcare Network as a new component in its continuing quest to provide employment and career opportunities to members of the communities it serves.

Pennsylvania State Representatives John Myers (D., Phila) and Dwight Evans (D., Phila), Democratic chair of the House Appropriations Committee, were instrumental in securing $250,000 in state funds to establish the new program and also to enhance career advancement for current Einstein employees.

The CNA training program is designed to attract high school graduates, GED holders, and working people, in and out of healthcare, who are seeking career advancement opportunities.

The Certified Nurse Assistant training program consists of 140 hours of training over seven weeks. Upon successfully completing the training, students receive Pennsylvania state certification and are provided with an opportunity to work in the Albert Einstein Healthcare Network providing primary care, including taking vital signs, following basic infection control procedures and bathing and feeding patients. For more information on the CNA Program, please call Hillary McFadden at 215-456-2445.

For years, Einstein has committed to expanding career development in Philadelphia, introducing and encouraging an array of healthcare training programs for jobs that are in great demand, while stimulating economic development within the community. The programs include the Albert Einstein Healthcare Network & LaSalle University Nursing Careers Program Partnership, a unique initiative providing educational assistance to LaSalle University nursing students who want to join Einstein’s premier healthcare organization.

Another career development program for 11th and 12th graders is the Discover Healthcare Summer Program run by Einstein’s Department of Volunteers. The program, which honors Stephen Niklauski, son of an Einstein employee Marie Niklauski, who lost his life in 2004, introduces high school students to a variety of health careers as well as teaching resume writing and interviewing skills. For more information, please call Ellen F. Goldberg at 215-456-6059.
