Best-Selling Author Walter Isaacson To Address Albert Einstein Society
Society Raises Funds to Support Research Projects and Innovative Programming for Patient Care
Philadelphia, PA, May 28, 2007 ─ Walter Isaacson, former CNN Chairman and author of the best-selling Albert Einstein: His Life and Universe will be the special guest speaker at the 35th annual Albert Einstein Society (AES) black tie dinner on Thursday, May 31, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. at the Four Seasons Hotel in
Center City Philadelphia.
Isaacson’s new work is the first complete biography of Einstein since all of his papers and personal letters have become publicly
available. The author takes readers into the life and mind of the man who helped usher in the modern age and changed people’s
understanding of the universe.
“How fitting to have Mr. Isaacson speak to the values and principles upon which our namesake, Albert Einstein, based his life,”
said Steven Merahn, MD, Vice President of Communications at Albert Einstein Healthcare Network. “This year, the Einstein Society awarded more than
$325,000 to fund innovative programs and research which might otherwise have no source of support.”
The AES was founded in 1972 to support original research projects that allow for the exploration of new ideas in the laboratory,
hospital and community. It raises funds every year from physicians, employees, trustees and the community. Every dollar
goes to support various programs. Over the years, a number of AES programs have gone on to influence healthcare practice
nationally, such as the asthma study that looked at steroid regimens to improve patient compliance and reduce emergency room
visits. The project received a “best presentation” award at the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine (SAEM) Northeast
Conference and was selected for a special presentation at the national SAEM conference in 2005.
At this year’s dinner, the society also will honor one of its long-time board members, Arnold M. Katz, and esteemed physician, John J. Kelly, DO, FACEP. Mr. Katz will be this year’s community honoree and Dr. Kelly will receive the Physician Leadership Award.
“The mission of AES is to provide a fellowship of community and medical leaders with a shared commitment to Albert Einstein
Healthcare Network and the health requirements of humanity. Therefore, we are delighted to honor Mr. Katz and Dr. Kelly for their tireless dedication to the Society, the Board, and to providing the community with the highest-quality healthcare,”
commented Merahn.
