
Korean Feast Prepared for Einstein’s Korean Advisory Board
Luncheon at Einstein at Elkins Park Hosted by Rev. Sung Won Paek
Philadelphia, PA, October 9, 2007 - A veritable feast of Korean delicacies prepared by master chef Jong-Hyok Kim will be offered on Friday, Oct. 12, 2007, from
12 noon to 1 p.m. at Einstein at Elkins Park Hospital, 60 Township Line Road in Elkins Park, Montgomery County. This very
special, free event will be hosted by Rev. Sung-Won Paek, Cultural Outreach Coordinator of Albert Einstein Healthcare Network.
Sharing the delicacies with Einstein staff will be members of the Korean Advisory Board, a group created to better understand
and serve the needs of the growing Korean community in Philadelphia and Montgomery County. Organized in April 2007, the board
includes the following members:
- Jung-Na Doughty, Former President of Korean Women’s Association Elkins Park
- Justin Chang-Hee Lee, Chair of the Korean-American Merchants Assoc.
- Eun-Sook,Kang, Executive Director The Wedge Medical Center
- Jason Yong-Kil Kim, former Vice President, Korean-American Association in Greater Philadelphia
- Kui-Ok Lee, Columnist for Dong-A Daily News Media
- Jong Sook Oh, President, Professional Insurance & Financial
- Simon Soo-Mok Shim, Vice President, Korean School Association
- In-Ho Yun, staff interpreter at Einstein
The Board has been instrumental in creating the following initiatives:
- Hepatitis B Information Program on May 12
- Mammogram /diagnostic tests for women who are uninsured or under-insured
- Health Education and Presentations at Korean School Association, Korean-American Association in Greater Philadelphia, Korean-American
Senior Citizen Association, Young Korean Academy, Korean-American Youth Leadership Academy, PCA (Philadelphia Corporation
for Aging) and American Cancer Society
Einstein has supported a diabetes campaign and health screenings with the Philip Jaisohn Center; the PASSi Gala, and enhanced
the patient experience at MossRehab and Einstein at Elkins Park by increasing interpreter hours and including Korean menus
for patients, visitors and staff.
Rev. Paek has been working with Einstein’s Human Resources Department to inform the Korean community about opportunities for
employment, including a unique link (KRI) on the Einstein website: www.einstein.edu/jobsearch.
Future plans include regular submission of health related articles to the Korean news media, free or reduced-price flu shots
and vision tests, and a heart health lecture.
