Dr. Lawrence J. Solin Selected New Chair of Radiation Oncology at Albert Einstein Healthcare Network
Philadelphia, PA, April 8, 2008 ─ Lawrence J. Solin, MD, FACR has been selected as the new Chair of Radiation Oncology at Albert Einstein Healthcare Network. Specializing in the treatment
of breast malignancies, Dr. Solin brings a wealth of experience and great deal of enthusiasm to the position.
Prior to joining Einstein, Dr. Solin was a full professor at the University of Pennsylvania. He has received
international recognition for his research on the use of definitive radiation after breast conservation treatment for women
with early stage breast cancer. His contribution to the medical literature includes over 150 publications, and he has given
more than 125 invited national and international lectures. Dr. Solin’s recent research has focused on the use of breast conservation
treatment for ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) and long-term outcomes after breast conservation treatment for the DCIS and
invasive carcinoma. These outcomes studies have helped shape treatment protocols for newly diagnosed breast cancer patients.
“I’m excited to begin my tenure as chairman at Einstein for several reasons,” says Dr. Solin. “Superior physicians
from a variety of disciplines at Einstein come together to offer exceptionally high-quality patient care. There’s a commitment
to education, which spans patient care, research, and teaching. And the staff is fantastic at both the ‘nuts and bolts’ of
therapy and at offering support. They’re outstanding at making patients feel as comfortable and welcome as possible throughout
the challenging process of cancer diagnosis and treatment.”
The hiring of Dr. Solin is just the beginning of a number of positive changes for Einstein’s Department of Radiation
Oncology including enhanced equipment and new personnel. For example in the fall 2008, a new linear accelerator device will
be installed. The department also plans to expand hiring of highly qualified physicians, with the goal of creating one of
the highest quality, mid-size radiation oncology departments in the country.
“This investment by Einstein in the advanced technology needed to offer cutting-edge radiation treatments to patients
demonstrates their commitment to patients care,” commented Dr. Solin. “It allows us to perform increasingly sophisticated
procedures faster and more effectively. Patients benefit by receiving the same or higher cure rates in less time with fewer
side effects. These newer devices also allow us to offer a broader array of therapies for less common cancers.”
Dr. Solin resides in Haverford, Pennsylvania.
