
Nancy A. Young, MD, FCAP, Appointed Chairman, Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine at Albert Einstein Medical Center
Philadelphia, PA, July 15, 2008 – Nancy A. Young, MD, FCAP, has been appointed Chairman, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Albert Einstein Medical Center. She comes
to Einstein Medical Center from Fox Chase Cancer Center, where she practiced Cytopathology for 14 years and served as Director
of the Clinical Laboratory.
Dr. Young is board-certified in both Anatomic and Clinical Pathology with subspecialty certification in Cytopathology. She
is recognized as a national and international expert in the diagnosis of lymphoma by fine needle aspiration biopsy. She is
also an author of the most recent Bethesda Classification System for reporting Cervical Cytology for Pap Tests.
Dr. Young is a fellow of the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and serves on their Patient Safety and Performance Measures
Committee. She was elected by the membership of the American Society of Cytopathology (ASC) to serve on their Executive Board
and is Chair of their E-Learning task force.
Dr. Young has an academic appointment as Professor of Pathology, Anatomy, and Cell Biology at Thomas Jefferson Medical College.
Committed to medical education and training, she has lectured extensively nationally and internationally and written numerous
book chapters and peer reviewed publications.
She received her undergraduate and medical degree from the Lehigh University-Medical College of Pennsylvania six-year medical
program and underwent residency training at Yale New Haven Hospital, where she also served as Chief Resident and Instructor
in Clinical Pathology. Dr. Young then went on to complete her fellowship training in Cytopathology at the Medical College
of Pennsylvania.
Having been born at Albert Einstein Medical Center gives Dr. Young a special relationship with the institution. In addition,
both her parents were pathologists at Einstein from the 1950s to the 1980s. Her father also served as Chairman of Pathology
and Laboratory Medicine.
