Einstein Chairman Named Fellow of Prestigious Cancer Organization

Dr. Lawrence J. Solin Selected by American Society for Therapeutic Radiology & Oncology

Philadelphia, PA, Sept. 25, 2008 ─ Lawrence J. Solin, MD, FACR has been named a Fellow of the highly respected American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ASTRO), whose more than 9,500 members specialize in treating patients with radiation therapy. Dr. Solin, who is Chairman of Radiation Oncology at Albert Einstein Healthcare Network, specializes in the treatment of breast malignancies.

Dr. Solin received the Fellow designation on Sept. 23, 2008, at a special ceremony during the Society’s 50th annual meeting scheduled for Sept. 21-25 at the Boston, MA Convention and Exhibition Center.

The ASTRO Fellows program was created to honor and recognize individuals like Dr. Solin who have given so much to the specialty of radiation oncology, the Society and their patients. Dr. Solin was joined by 29 other Fellows announced at the meeting.

Dr. Solin has received international recognition for his research on the use of definitive radiation after breast conservation treatment for women with early stage breast cancer. His contribution to the medical literature includes over 150 publications, and he has given more than 125 invited national and international lectures.

Members of ASTRO are eligible to become a Fellow if they have been a member of the Society for at least 20 years, have served in a leadership role for the organization, and have made a significant contribution to the field of radiation oncology. The primary pathways to becoming a Fellow are research, patient care, education, and leadership/service.

Each Fellow is required to have a truly outstanding contribution to at least one of these pathways to be named a Fellow. A nine-member Fellows Selection Committee that makes the recommendations to the ASTRO Board of Directors for a final decision reviews the nominations.
