Surgeons must:

• Be certified by the American Board of Surgery
• Be members of the American Society for Bariatric Surgery
• Have the highest credentials, including experience in performing a variety of weight loss procedures utilizing modern techniques
• Keep up with the most current bariatric treatments through ongoing continuing medical education

The hospital system must:

• Ensure all facilities and equipment meet the special needs of morbidly obese patients
• Maintain all of the various critical care services needed for bariatric surgical patients
• Have nurses and physician assistants dedicated to serving bariatric surgical patients
