The Laparoscopic Adjustable Band® System, also known as a lap band or gastric band, restricts the size of the stomach. This helps reduce the amount of food you can eat at one time, and you get fuller faster.
The Laparoscopic Adjustable Band is a ring encased in fluid that's placed over the upper stomach to create a small pouch. The ring is attached to tubing connected to a port that lies under the skin in the abdomen.
During the course of your treatment the band may be adjusted, and fluid in it may be added or removed, as needed, to help maintain or stimulate weight loss.
You can think of the band as being similar to a belt that's gradually tightened.
The Laparoscopic Adjustable Band is fine-tuned to meet your individual needs.
Gastric lap band surgery is available at Einstein Bariatrics located at Einstein at Elkins Park, an acute care hospital conveniently located in Montgomery County.
Einstein Bariatrics is a designated Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence by the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.
