Step one for changing your health and quality of life through weight loss surgery is a consultation with an Einstein surgeon.
Prior to this meeting you need to do the following:
Once we receive completed information and have confirmed your insurance benefits we'll schedule a one-on-one consultation with a surgeon.
The initial consultation enables an Einstein Bariatrics surgeon to design a plan of action to match your individual needs.
Your surgeon will order necessary medical tests and provide details about your surgery, its benefits and potential complications.
Feel free to ask questions and express any concerns you may have at this meeting. Your spouse, significant other, friends or family members who you'd like to be part of the process are welcome to attend. However, because we need to focus on you, we ask that small children be left at home.
Lab workAll patients are required to have specific laboratory testing.
Sleep StudyMany patients will be required to obtain a sleep study. Sleep apnea is a common disorder in persons of size, which can cause complications, such as low blood oxygen levels, heart arrhythmias and heart attacks. Diagnosing and treating this disorder before surgery may significantly improve your after-surgery experience.
Stress TestPatients at risk for heart disease need a stress test to reduce the risk of heart problems during surgery. Often, before this test is performed, you must stop taking certain blood pressure medications. Call the lab several days before you have this test to make sure you are not taking a medication that would interfere with the study.
