Minimally invasive weight loss surgery — also called laparoscopic surgery — is a high-tech technique where small incisions are made to your abdomen. Your surgeon uses a magnification camera, called a laparoscope, and surgical instruments that are thinner than a pencil.
At Einstein, all bariatric surgery is performed laproscopically.
Benefits of laparoscopic surgery include:
- Less pain
- Short hospital stays
- Return to work in two weeks or less for most procedures
- Limited complications
Patients who undergo laparoscopic surgery experience minimal pain that can usually be resolved with over-the-counter pain reliever.
You can get out of bed to walk much easier with less discomfort than happens with traditional surgery.
Laparoscopic techniques reduce recovery times. Smaller incisions result in less chance of developing infections. There is also decreased internal and external scarring.
