Title: Disparities in Rehabilitation Research Enrollment
Funded By: National Institutes of Health
Status: Ongoing
Overview: This research is a three-year study investigating ethnic differences and disparities as they may relate to participation
in rehabilitation research. There has been no research on whether the known enrollment problems with regard to minority participation
in biomedical research also exist in rehabilitation research. This study will investigate that purely empirical question about
whether the rate of refusal in rehabilitation research differs by ethnicity. It will also investigate whether or not there
are socioeconomic or educational factors that account for the differences. The long-term objective of this research is to
design, implement and evaluate better recruitment and retention strategies to improve minority participation in rehabilitation.
This research is a “nested study,” part of the five-year Clinical Trials Core of the Northeast Cognitive Rehabilitation Research
Network (NCRRN) proposal.
