Title: Coronary Heart Disease in Women: Factors Affecting Delay to Seek Treatment for an Acute Ischemic Event
Funded by: Albert Einstein Society
Status: On-going
Overview: The purpose of this study is to examine factors that may delay women from seeking prompt attention for cardiac symptoms associated
with an acute ischemic event such as a heart attack. Women who have just experienced an acute event are interviewed regarding
the number of hours that they delayed seeking medical treatment, specific physical symptoms that they experienced, symptom
severity, health beliefs, and sociodemographic and psychosocial factors. Sixty women will be interviewed.
The result of this study will be used to develop a larger, hypothesis –driven study, develop programs to improve patient quality
of life, and to inform the public of women’s risks and symptoms of coronary heart disease.
