Title:The Violence Prevention Connection
Funded by:The William Penn Foundation
Status:Ongoing
Overview: This project is dedicated to preventing and reducing repeat and retaliatory injuries and deaths among youth in Einstein's
primary service area. In partnership with the Healthcare Collaborative to Prevent Youth Violence and other community organizations,
the Violence Prevention Connection assists youth who have been involved in violence, ages 10 to 24, with assessing future
risk of re-injury and retaliation, referrals for community resources, mentoring, conflict resolution skills, job-preparation
skills and supportive counseling and groups. The Violence Prevention Connection seeks to help youth who have interpersonal
injuries including gunshot wounds, stabbing, lacerations and abrasions, as well as those who have been involved in assaults,
fights and domestic violence.
By collaborating with community agencies, such as the Philadelphia Anti-Drug/Anti-Violence Network (PAAN) and local police
departments, hospital staff receives education and training firmly grounded in social work, criminology, and psychology and
is therefore better able to provide screening and medical intervention for youth victims of violence 24 hours per day, 7 days
per week at the AEMC's Department of Emergency Medicine.
