  • Mark B Anderson, M.D.

    Dr. Anderson brings expertise in minimally invasive heart surgery and robotic heart surgery.  In addition to these special areas of interest, his expertise extends to all aspects of cardiac surgery, including coronary bypass surgery, valve replacement and repair, thoracic aortic surgery, pacemaker surgery and insertion of defibrillators. 

    Dr. Anderson is board certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery and by the American Board of Surgery.  

    Prior to joining Einstein, Dr. Anderson was Chief of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Chief of the Section of Cardiac Surgery, and Professor of Surgery at the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey(UMDNJ)/Robert Wood Johnson School of Medicine in New Brunswick, NJ.  He also served as Director of the Cardiopulmonary Transplantation and Circulatory Support and the Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery Program.  He was also Assistant Director of the Thoracic Residency Program at UMDNJ. 

    Dr. Anderson earned his medical degree from New York Medical College in Valhalla, New York.  He completed his internship and residency in General Surgery at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City and served as Chief Resident in his last year of residency training.  Following completion of his residency education, he went on to complete a surgery fellowship in the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of California San Diego in San Diego, CA.    

    After completing his fellowship, Dr. Anderson was a Senior Registrar in Cardiac Surgery and Transplantation at Papworth Hospital in Cambridge, England.  Following that, Dr. Anderson returned to the United States to begin his professional career. 

     

    Dr. Anderson is an Associate Fellow American College of Cardiology, a Fellow American College of Surgeons, a member of the American College of Surgeons Oncology Group, the American Medical Association, and the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, among others. 

    He serves on the Gerald W. Austin Young Investigator Award Committee, Society of Thoracic Surgeons, and is Chairman or Vice Chairman of several committees of the New York Thoracic Society. He has published articles in renowned medical journals and regularly reviews articles for Circulation, Critical Care Medicine, Journal of Interventional Cardiac Electrophysiology, Annals of Thoracic Surgery, and Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery.  

    Dr. Anderson has conducted numerous presentations and invited lectures on a variety of topics pertaining to cardiac surgery, minimally invasive heart valve surgery, Ventricular Assist Device (VAD), and treatment of heart failure.  His research interests include the surgical management of heart failure and myocardial recovery.
