James Lim, MD
Transplant Surgery Residency Program
1988-1994
James attended AEMC Surgical Residency program from 1988 to1994 and continued on as a Transplant Fellow until 1994. He completed
his Liver, Kidney and Pancreas fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh in 1996. James is currently Director of the Pancreatic
Transplant Program at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ. He and his wife Carol have three beautiful
children, Jonathan (10), Jessica (7) and Hannah (3).
Ian Soriano, MD
General Surgery Residency Program
2001 - 2006
Dr. Soriano attended the Surgical Residency Progam at Einstein from 2001 to 2006. He currently lives in Weston, Florida where
he is doing a Clinical Fellowship in Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Florida, Weston, Florida.
John Mendillo, MD
Surgical Residency Program
1940
After completing his residency at Einstein, John was called to serve in the Korean War after which he became Board-Certified
in Surgery. In 1955, upon leaving the service, he partnered in private practice with his uncle, Dr. Anthony J. Mendillo. Other
positions held during his long career included: Attending Surgeon at Yale New Haven, St. Raphael’s Hospital and member of
the Clinical Surgical teaching staff of Yale Medical School.
Upon retiring in 1986, John and his wife moved to Naples Florida where they both enjoy golfing, fishing and painting. Nearly
87 years of age, John still enjoys life!
Daniel B. Westawski, MD
General Surgery Residency Program
1992-1997
Daniel attended Einstein’s General Surgery Residency Program between the years of 1992 and 1997 after which he completed his
Plastic Surgery Residency at the University of Utah and Microsurgical and Hand Fellowship at the Hospital of the University
of Pennsylvania. Dr. Westawski currently maintains private practice in Plastic Surgery in Bryn Mawr and Abington, Pennsylvania,
while holding a teaching appointment at HUP/CHOP as a Clinical Associate.
Robert W. Solit, MD
Thoracic and Vascular Residency Program
1961-1962
Dr. Solit interned at AEMC from 1961 to 1962. Throughout his career he has held many positions including Vice President (1985-1989)
and President of the Albert Einstein Medical Center’s Medical Staff (1989-1992). He is currently Attending Surgeon (1969-present)
at AEMC and Thomas Jefferson University Hospital; Clinical Professor of Surgery (1992- present) Jefferson Medical College;
Head, Section of General Thoracic Surgery (1992-present) AEMC; Co-Director of Vascular Lab and Head, Section of Vascular Surgery
(1993-present) AEMC. He and his wife, Linda met at Einstein and share four married children; Richard, David, Lisa and Douglas
and eight grandchildren.
Robert G. Somers, MD
Dr. Somers, Senior Attending Physician and Former Chairman of the Department of Surgery AEMC. In 1982, he launched AEMC’s
Breast Cancer Program. In addition, he has published numerous journals dealing specifically with innovative cancer diagnosis
and treatments for breast cancer. Received his M.D. from Thomas Jefferson Medical College in 1958. Both his internship and
surgical fellow in Oncology were at Sloane Kettering Cancer Center in New York. Dr. Somers has been affiliated with AEMC’s
Department of Surgery since 1966. Director of Breast Cancer Program, Surgical Oncology Section Head, and Residency Program
Director for Department of Surgery.
He and his wife, Ronnie have three daughters, Marjorie, Debra and Amy.
Jerome Kosoy, MD
Department of Surgery
1964-1965 (Intern)
Dr. Kosoy interned at AEMC from 1964 to 1965. He has been married for forty-three years and he and his wife share two married
daughters and two grandchildren. His son passed away in 2002. Dr. Kosoy was elected to the prestigious ENT Triologic Society
and has been published numerous times. He is currently working part-time doing impairment ratings for workman’s compensation.
Phillip C. Ginsberg, DO, JD
Surgery and Urology Residency Programs
1981-1985
Dr. Ginsberg attended Einstein’s Surgery Residency Program and Einstein’s Urology Residency Program from 1981 to 1985. He
currently holds the title of Chairman, Department of Urology at Einstein.
Deepak Mital, MD, MS, FRCS, FACS, MBA
General Surgery Fellowship Program
Transplant Surgery
1991-1993
Dr. Mital attended Einstein’s General Surgery/Transplant Surgery Fellowship Program from 1991 to 1993. He is the Director
of the Pancreas Transplant Program for Rush University in Chicago, Illinois since 1999, attending transplant surgeon with
Rush University since 1994 and Associate Professor of Surgery since 2000. Prior positions he has held at Rush University have
been Assistant Professor of Surgery from 1994 to 2000 and Senior Fellow, Liver Transplantation from 1993 to 1994. In 2003
Dr. Mital received his MBA from Kellogg Graduate School of Business in Evanston, Illinois and in 2006 earned his FACS-Fellow.
Julio Ordonez, MD
General Surgery Residency Program
1973-1974
Julio attended Einstein’s General Surgery Residency Program from 1973 to1974. He maintains a private practice in Gresham,
Oregon where he also resides.
Marc Charles Fater, MD
Surgical Residency Program
1987-1993
Dr. Fater attended Einstein’s Surgical Residency Program from 1987 to1993. He finished his Plastic Surgery training at Baylor
College of Medicine in 1995 and has been in private practice in Hyannis, Massachusetts since that time. Marc is presently
Chief of the Plastic Surgery Division and Vice Chief of the Department of Surgery at Cape Cod Hospital. He and his wife Patty
share three kids, Max-16, Luke-14 and Gabriel-11.
