
Online CME - Patient Safety Courses
Below is a list of online CME courses/sites that have been reviewed by Albert Einstein Medical Center’s Office of Continuing
Medical Education. Sites selected allow physicians to obtain CME credit hours either free of charge or for a minimal expense.
Within each of these sites, patient safety and risk management topics are offered. Information on how to search each site
is provided along with the URL.
Hand Hygiene CME

to provide Einstein physicians with the Hand Hygiene CME, eligible for 1 CME credit hour.

AHRQ features “Morbidity and Mortality Rounds on the Web”, an online journal and forum on patient safety and health care quality.
This site features expert analysis of medical errors (cases reported anonymously) in multiple specialties. Search for the
interactive learning modules titled “Spotlight Cases”. All qualify as patient safety topics for CME credit. AHRQ WebM&M offers
continuing medical education (CME) credit for completion of Spotlight modules only. Each Spotlight Case has an expanded commentary
by a national expert. After completion of a module, the user may choose to obtain credit for successful completion of the
quiz. By completing each month's Spotlight quiz, users can obtain up to 12 CME credits per year.

Medscape offers continuously updated continuing education activities by specialty for physicians and other health professionals.
There are over 100 courses to choose from that have been developed by ACCME-accredited organizations. It is recommended that
you use the following guidelines for searching the site to identify courses that will qualify as patient safety topics.
- Click CME on top navigation bar
- Use CME Search (top right corner).
- Type in keywords patient safety, risk management or preventive medicine
- Click Go
A red CME tag will appear to the left of the topic if it qualifies for CME.

Physicians can search this site for courses that qualify as Patient Safety by using the “Search by Keyword” bar located at
the top right corner of the home page. Simply type in the words “standard of care” and topics that relate to patient safety
will appear including evidence-based medicine, communication between physicians and patients and preventative medicine education.
Physicians will need to register for this site in order to be able to take the course and receive CME credit(s).

The American College of Physicians (ACP) online offers 48 interactive Clinical Problem Solving Cases (CPSC) in various subspecialties
of internal medicine – each worth 1 CME credit hour. Physicians are asked to evaluate a case presentation, choose diagnostic
tests, determine a differential diagnosis, order treatments, respond to outcomes, manage complications and face other challenges
associated with real-life case management. Physicians receive test results and get to read through evidence-based evaluations
of their decisions. Links to diagnostic images, charts, lab values, test utility ratings, clinical calculators, latest references
and other data are included.
A subscription cost of $75.00 guarantees you access to all 48 cases - and up to 48 hours of CME.
