The Einstein OBGYN Residence Program Mission StatementMaintain a learning environment to enable our residents to achieve levels of training that exceed their own expectation
The Einstein Medical Center Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency is a fully accredited, four-year residency training program that provides outstanding clinical training in the academic setting of a major tertiary care urban medical center. Our program is proud to offer a unique aspect that allows our residents to also train in our suburban hospital, Einstein Medical Center Montgomery (EMCM) which opened in September of 2012. This suburban hospital enables our residents the opportunity to train in both an urban and suburban setting.
In 2011 our program received a 5 year accreditation from the ACGME. In 2012, we were granted approval from the ACGME to increase our resident complement to five residents per year.
We perform over 4000 deliveries, 1,900 major and 2,100 minor gynecologic surgical procedures, and care for 5000 visits to the MFM antepartum testing unit. Many ObGyn programs have similar numbers; however, we stress and insure that all patients are teaching cases.
In order to provide our residents with exceptional specialty rotations we have long term relationships with Abington Infertility and The Fox Chase Cancer Center. Both Fox Chase and Abington have joined the staff at Einstein Montgomery. This commitment to Einstein exemplifies the strong relationship that we have built over the past 10 years. Einstein Montgomery will also feature a female medicine and pelvic reconstructive surgery service provided by Drs. Miles Murphy, Vincent Lucente, and Bhatia Saiz.
Our faculty includes specialists in maternal-fetal medicine, gynecologic oncology, reproductive endocrinology and infertility, advanced pelvic surgery robotic and minimally invasive surgery and general obstetrician-gynecologists. The ancillary staff include six nurse practitioners and three physician assistants, one nurse midwife at EMCP, and 4 nurse midwives at EMCM.
The Lifter Building is home to the almost all of our services. The first floors consist of the antenatal testing unit, the maternal fetal medicine offices, the labor and delivery suite and our conference room, our coordinator and associate program directors offices. The second floor houses the neonatal intensive care unit and our administrative offices. The third and fourth floor is our post partum unit and our antenatal beds with access to fetal monitoring.
We use a comprehensive obstetrically specific electronic medical record (EMR), called PeriBirth. This EMR is an intelligent medical record with over 3000 clinical decision supports in place. Our fetal hearts are monitored by central monitor utilizing a program called PeriCalm, a FDA approved system which allows for computer generated fetal heart evaluation to aid the clinician in fetal heart rate interpretation.
Our robotic surgeons enjoy the use of the DaVinci system at Einstein Elkins Park Hospital, located seven miles from the main campus, as well robotic surgery at EMCM. We initiate our resident’s minimally invasive surgical training through both basic simulation as well as protected time in our on campus simulation center which houses two LapSim laparoscopic trainers.
Graduates of our program move into specialist training as well as general practice and enjoy high success on board certification examinations.
Our graduates have become very successful generalists in their local communities or have continued their academic career in fellowship training. Since 2003 we have placed nine graduates into fellowship training. An interesting note is that two fellows have chosen to return to Einstein to practice and train our residents. A true testament to our program.
Our research concentrates on clinical research, resident training, improvements in the quality of care, and on surgical training. We present annually at national meetings and have published our work in major peer reviewed journals.
