The Einstein Medical Center Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency is a fully accredited, four-year residency training program that provides outstanding clinical training in the academic setting of a major tertiary care urban medical center. Our program is proud to offer a unique aspect that allows our residents to also train in our suburban hospital, Einstein Medical Center Montgomery (EMCM) which will open in September of 2012. This suburban hospital will afford our residents the opportunity to train in both an urban and suburban setting.

In 2012 our program received a 5 year accreditation from the ACGME. In addition we were granted approval from the ACGME to increase our resident complement to five residents per year.

We perform over 3200 deliveries, 1,900 major and 2,100 minor gynecologic surgical procedures, and care for 4000 visits to the MFM antepartum testing unit. Many programs have similar numbers, however we stress and insure that all patients are teaching cases.

In order to provide our residents with exceptional specialty rotations we have long term relationship with Abington Infertility and The Fox Chase Cancer Center. Both Fox Chase and Abington will also be joining the staff at Einstein Montgomery. This commitment to Einstein exemplifies the strong relationship that we have built over the past 10 years. Einstein Montgomery will also feature a female medicine and reconstructive surgery service provided by Miles Murphy, Vincent Lucente, and Bhatia Saiz.

Our faculty includes specialists in maternal-fetal medicine, gynecologic oncology, reproductive endocrinology and infertility, advanced pelvic surgeryrobotic and minimally invasive surgeryand general obstetrician-gynecologists. The ancillary staff include six nurse practioner and three physician assistants, and one nurse midwife.

The Lifter building is home to the almost all of our services. The first floor consist of the antenatal testing unit, the maternal fetal medicine offices, the labor and delivery suite and our conference room, our coordinator and associate program directors offices. The second floor houses the neonatal intensive care unit and our administrative offices. The third floor is our post partum floor and the finally the top floor is our Women’s Pavilion, where we have antenatal beds with access to fetal monitoring and our gynecologic inpatient beds.

We use a comprehensive obstetrically specific electronic medical record (EMR), called PeriBirth. This EMR is an intelligent medical record with over 3000 clinical decision supports in place. Our fetal hearts are monitored by central monitor utilizing a system called PeriCalm which allows for computer generated fetal heart evaluation to aid the clinician in fetal heart rate interpretation.

Our robotic surgeons enjoy the use of the DaVinci system at Einstein Elkin Park Hospital located seven miles from the main campus as well robotic surgery at EMCM. We initiate our residents minimally invasive surgical training through both basic simulation as well protected time in our on campus simulation center which houses two LapSim laparoscopic trainers.

Graduates of our program move into specialist training as well as general practice and enjoy high success on board certification examinations.

Our graduates have become very successful generalist in their local communities or have continued their academic career in fellowship training. Since 2003 we have placed nine graduates into fellowship training. An interesting note is that two fellows have chosen to return to Einstein to practice and train our resident. A true testament to our program.

Our research concentrates on clinical research, resident training, improvements in the quality of care, and on surgical training. We present annual at national meetings and have published our work in major peer reviewed journals.
