  • Podiatric Medicine - Curriculum

    PGY-1

    The resident will receive training in rotations to enhance their medical knowledge. The resident will rotate through medical imaging, pathology, anesthesiology, internal medicine, general surgery, emergency medicine, behavioral science, and podiatric medicine. A foundation for podiatric surgery and private practice is introduced to the resident.

    PGY-2

    During this year the resident will develop a proficiency in the management of podiatric surgery cases. The resident is expected to learn and develop knowledge, attitude and skills in preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative assessment and management of digital, first ray, soft tissue and osseous foot surgery. The resident will rotate through podiatric surgery, private practice, vascular surgery, orthopedic surgery, emergency medicine, rheumatology, gait analysis/biomechanics.

    Conferences

    • The resident will attend a weekly didactic lecture series at Roxborough Hospital. This will educate the resident in podiatric surgical and nonsurgical cases. It will prepare the resident for the oral and written board exams.
    • Journal club is held at Germantown Hospital weekly for review of articles.
    • In-services are provided for review of surgical hardware and antibiotic therapy.
    • The resident will also attend the Institutional Curriculum Conference provided by the Einstein Medical Center.
