Einstein Medical Center Philadelphia | Belmont Center for Comprehensive Treatment | Germantown Crisis Response Center (CRC) |Top
Einstein Medical Center Philadelphia is a large Independent Academic Medical Center that trains residents in over 30 accredited programs. On this main campus, there are two inpatient psychiatry units: a general adult psychiatry unit and a geriatric psychiatry unit. Because these units are part of a general hospital, the resident is able to learn to care for patients who have complex medical and psychiatric co-morbidities. ECT is also performed at this clinical site.
There is a very busy Consultation and Liaison Service at this site, allowing the resident to gain experience in topics such as evaluation of decision-making capacity and of suitability for organ transplant. Consults are also preformed in Willowcrest, a nursing home facility, and Mossrehab, recognized by US News & World report as one of 'Americas best' rehab hospitals (#1 in Philadelphia). Both facilities are attached to the main hospital.
One of our two outpatient psychiatry clinics is also located here. The outpatient center was recently renovated and offers excellent offices for both child and adult work.
The Belmont Center for Comprehensive Treatment is a 147 bed private psychiatric hospital with many subspecialty units, including dual diagnosis, child, adolescent and eating disorders units. At this site, residents gain experience in subspecialty psychiatry and general psychiatry, including mood disorders, and are encouraged to become involved in the many available research opportunities. ECT is also performed at this facility. This site includes one of our two outpatient clinics where third year residents have their own outpatient office and see patients for the entirety of their third year of residency.
Grand rounds, which occur every Friday, are broadcasted to Belmont from Einstein. This system is interactive allowing the faculty, residents and students at Belmont to participate in the Q&A portion of the lecture.
Belmont is down the road from many convenient shops and restaurants including Target, Starbucks, Chipotle, Potbelly Sandwiches and California Pizza Kitchen.
The Germantown Crisis Response Center (CRC) includes our Adult and our Child Crisis Response Centers. The Adult Crisis Response Center is very busy, and is a popular rotation with our residents, who feel they learn rapidly on this rotation. The Child Crisis Response Center is the only one of its kind in the city, and is also very popular with the residents, especially those who plan to enter a Child and Adolescent Fellowship. Also located on the Germantown Campus is the Long Term Structured Residence, where adults with chronic and persistent mental illness are treated. This rotation gives residents the opportunity to learn more about behavioral techniques, complex medication management and other aspects of caring for the chronically mentally ill.
Einstein is taking an innovative approach to patient care by offering the region’s first Sensory Room in its Crisis Response Center (CRC), which provides emergency psychiatric services. It is named the “Oasis Room” because, just like an oasis, the room creates the feeling of a calm refuge. People who come to the CRC may be extremely frightened or agitated. The room offers a calming, nurturing environment where patients can relax and feel cared for and supported prior to their full evaluation.
All clinical sites are a short drive from one another, and Albert Einstein Medical Center and the Crisis Response center are easily accessible by public transportation. Most residents choose to own a car to easily get from one location to another.
Residents are provided with free parking at all clinical sites.
