Chairman's Message

Carl R. Chudnofsky, MD, FACEP

Welcome to the Emergency Medicine Residency at Albert Einstein Medical Center. Our fully accredited long-standing residency program is dedicated to bringing breadth and depth to Emergency Medicine education.

Emergency Medicine training at Albert Einstein Medical Center will expose you to a wide variety of patients with a broad spectrum of illness and injury. Albert Einstein Medical Center is a Level One Trauma Center with over 85,000 annual ED visits serving a predominantly urban patient population with a nice mix of medical, surgical, and trauma related pathology.

The Emergency Medicine faculty is composed of board certified Emergency Physicians who are committed to resident education whose knowledge, skills, and insight will help you develop into an exceptional Emergency Physician.

The Emergency Medicine Research Program at Albert Einstein Medical Center is designed to provide residents with an opportunity to learn basic research methodology and analytic techniques important to the practice of emergency medicine. Our faculty and fellows are also busy conducting their own research on a broad range of emergency medicine topics. Our clinical research program employs a full time research coordinator and research assistants who are physically present in the emergency department 24 hours per day, seven days per week to assist with clinical research trials. Take a moment to look at some of our recent publications (click on “Research”) and I am sure you will agree that our faculty, fellows, and residents are leading contributors to the literature of Emergency Medicine.

While a diverse patient population, strong faculty, and active research program all contribute to the success of the program, our greatest asset is our Emergency Medicine Residents. Our residents come from diverse cultural, educational, and social backgrounds, but their work ethic, caring, compassion, and camaraderie are uniquely similar, and second to none.

Thank you for your interest in the Emergency Medicine Residency at Albert Einstein Medical Center. On behalf of Albert Einstein Medical Center, and faculty and staff of the Department of Emergency Medicine I wish you the best of luck as you enter the next phase of your medical education. If you have any questions or would like to discuss our program in more detail, please feel free to call Merle Carter, MD, Program Director or me any time.
