
Douglas McGee, DO
Dr. Douglas McGee is the Director of the Emergency Medicine Residency Program; Associate Chair for Education; Osteopathic Director
of Medical Education and Chief Academic Officer at Albert Einstein Medical Center. He is an Assistant Professor of Emergency
Medicine and Assistant Dean at Jefferson Medical College, Thomas Jefferson University. Dr. McGee has been the Residency Program
Director for nearly six years and served as the Associate Program Director for the preceding eight years. He also is a member
of Albert Einstein Medical Center's Graduate Education Committee and Associate Program Director of the Transitional Year Residency
Program.
Dr. McGee is Past President of the Pennsylvania Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians (PaACEP), an ACEP
Councilor, and serves on the ACEP Council Reference Committee. He chairs the National Emergency Medicine CPC Competition
for the Society of Academic Emergency Medicine (SAEM) and the Council of Residency Directors (CORD), and chairs the Graduate
Education Committee for SAEM. Dr. McGee is a nationally recognized speaker in the areas of CT interpretation, trauma management
and diagnostic testing. He also has lectured extensively on residency management.
Dr. McGee graduated from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1983 and completed his residency in emergency
medicine at Albert Einstein Medical Center. He is a graduate of the ACEP/Emergency Medicine Foundation (EMF) Teaching Fellowship.
Dr. McGee is a national faculty member of the American College of Emergency Physicians and the Pennsylvania Chapter of the
American College of Emergency Physicians. He has received numerous teaching and research awards including the ACEP National
Faculty Teaching Award and the Faculty Teaching Award presented by SAEM and CORD. Dr. McGee is a Fellow of the American College
of Emergency Physicians and the American College of Osteopathic Emergency Physicians.

Merle Carter, MD
Dr. Merle Carter is an Associate Director of the Emergency Medicine Residency Program, a post she has held for the past year,
and an Assistant Professor, Jefferson Medical College, Thomas Jefferson University. Prior to becoming Assistant Director,
she was the Director of Undergraduate Education for the Department of Emergency Medicine. Dr. Carter chairs the residency's
curriculum committee. She also serves on the Albert Einstein Medical Center Medical Staff Board, the Emergency Medicine Resident
Competency and Promotion Committee, the Emergency Medicine Curriculum Committee, Philadelphia Violence Prevention Collaborative,
AEMC Domestic Violence Committee and AAEMC Trauma Committee. Dr. Carter is a member of the Society for Academic Emergency
Medicine and American College of Emergency Physicians, and serves on committees for both groups.
Dr. Carter is a 1998 graduate of Yale University School of Medicine and completed her emergency medicine residency training
at Boston Medical Center. She also is a graduate of the ACEP/EMF Teaching Fellowship. Dr. Carter has won numerous awards
for her volunteer service and recently won the department's Medical Student Teaching Award.

Joel Kravitz, MD
Dr. Joel Kravitz is an Assistant Director of the Emergency Medicine Residency Program and an Assistant Professor of Emergency
Medicine, Jefferson Medical College, Thomas Jefferson University. Dr. Kravitz has been an Assistant Director of the Emergency
Medicine Residency Program for the past four years. He serves on the Albert Einstein Medical Center's Medication Use Committee
and the Emergency Medicine Resident Competency and Promotion Committee. He is a member of the American College of Emergency
Physicians, the Canadian Association of Emergency Physicians, the Council of Residency Directors and the Society of Academic
Emergency Medicine.
Dr. Kravitz serves on several national committees and task forces including the PaACEP Education Committee, the CORD Oral
Board Task Force, the CORD Ethics in Recruitment Task Force and the CORD Efficacy of Training Committee. He lectures at the
local, national and international levels on various topics including management of diabetic and thyroid disease. Dr. Kravitz
has written several book chapters on topics such as as wrist injuries, sexually transmitted disease and toxicology.
Dr. Kravitz is a 1996 graduate of McGill University School of Medicine in Montreal, Canada. He completed his residency in
Emergency Medicine at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal in 2001. Dr. Kravitz is board certified in emergency medicine
both by the American Board of Emergency Medicine and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. He is a graduate
of the ACEP/EMF Teaching Fellowship. Dr. Kravitz is the divisional winner of the National Emergency Medicine CPC Competition.
He is well-known for his teaching skills and has won the department's Faculty Achievement Award. Dr. Kravitz is a Fellow
of the American College of Emergency Physicians.

Maria Halluska-Handy, MD
Dr. Maria Halluska-Handy is an Assistant Director of the Emergency Medicine Residency Program. She recently served as the
Director of UME for three years. Dr. Handy has a faculty appointment in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Jefferson
Medical College, Thomas Jefferson University and serves on the Resident Competency and Promotion Committee. She is a member
of the American College of Emergency Physicians and the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine. Dr. Handy has particular
expertise in emergency ultrasound and is certified as a Level-3 emergency ultrasonographer.
Dr. Handy is a 2000 graduate of the Drexel College of Medicine and a 2003 graduate of the emergency medicine residency program
of the same institution. Dr. Handy is a 2007 graduate of the ACEP/EMF Teaching Fellowship.

Matthew Salzman, MD
Dr. Matthew Salzman is the Director of Undergraduate Medical Education (UME), responsible for coordinating and educating the
medical students who rotate in the Department of Emergency Medicine. He is the current Director of UME, succeeding Dr. Handy.
Dr. Salzman has a faculty appointment in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Jefferson Medical College, Thomas Jefferson
University and serves on the Resident Competency and Promotion Committee. He is a member of the American College of Emergency
Physicians and the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine. Dr. Salzman has particular expertise in emergency toxicology.
Dr. Salzman is a 2004 graduate of the Drexel College of Medicine and a 2006 graduate of the toxicology fellowship at the same
institution.

Kelli O'Donnell
Kelli O'Donnell is the Residency Coordinator for the Emergency Medicine Residency Program, a position she has held for more
than 17 years. She is the Co-Chair of the Website Development Committee and has served on the Nominations Committee and
the Professional Development Committee of the Emergency Medicine Association of Residency Coordinators. Ms. O'Donnell has
been a contributor to the Newsletter of the Emergency Medicine Residency Association. She is recognized as an expert in residency
administration and residency database management.
