The Emergency Medicine Residency Program provides residents with an exceptional opportunity to train in an urban environment
where the spectrum of illnesses is vast and the acuity is intense. Albert Einstein Medical Center (AEMC), the primary urban
training site, treats over 85,000 patients per year. Montgomery County Hospital and Delaware County Memorial Hospital, the
secondary community training site allow the resident to gain experience with an entirely different patient population. The
training in these emergency departments provides a comprehensive experience in multiple critical patient encounters and life
saving procedures. Albert Einstein is a busy Level 1 Regional Resource Trauma Center, providing high-level trauma care to
a broad spectrum of patients with blunt and penetrating trauma. The renovated and expanded Emergency Department is one of
the largest and most sophisticated in the region and includes digital radiography, CT scanning in the ED, emergency ultrasound,
infrared passive patient tracking, bedside testing, electronic records and many other state-of-the-art systems to assist the
resident’s training and enhance patient care. While the ED is an urban training environment, the department operates like
a well-run community hospital and achieves patient satisfaction scores at the top of our peer group.
AEMC’s Emergency Medicine Residency Program is dually accredited by both the Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education
and the American Osteopathic Association. Forty board-certified faculty members demonstrate an unsurpassed commitment to resident
education and clinical research. Many of the faculty has additional training in Emergency Medical Services, Special Operations
Medicine, Disaster Management, Emergency Ultrasound, and Toxicology, and several are nationally recognized experts in Resident
Education, Advanced Airway Management, Pain Management, Conscious Sedation, and EM Quality Assurance.
Our first time Board certification pass rate has been 100% for many years for the written, and 97% for the oral exams. The
graduates of our program are well trained for careers in either academic or community emergency medicine, and many have gone
on to fellowship training and administrative roles. Graduates of our program are assured the best possible preparation for
a successful career as emergency medicine physicians in any environment.
