Evaluation and Waiting List

  • Evaluation on One Day, at One Location

Once you are scheduled for an evaluation for kidney transplantation at Einstein, you will meet the transplant team and learn about the entire medical process, all on one day, at one location. Please bring any test results and copies of your CAT, MRI, ultrasound, endoscopy and colonoscopy scans with you.

Some tests that may be performed to determine your health status include:

    • Blood work
    • Lung X-ray
    • Abdominal ultrasound
    • CT scan, pulmonary function tests
    • Cardiac evaluation
    • Kidney biopsy

If you have existing medical conditions, additional tests may be scheduled.

    The Waiting List

Once you are approved for transplantation and have begun dialysis, you are immediately put on the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) waiting list.

All patients on the waiting list are treated equally and evaluated objectively.

Don't assume that because you are on dialysis you are automatically on an organ donor list. Be your own best advocate. Talk to your healthcare team and ensure this important step is taken if transplantation is recommended by your doctor.
