
Administrative Leadership
Steven L. Sivak, MD
Paul J. Johnson Chairman of Medicine, Albert Einstein Medical Center; Clinical Professor of Medicine, Jefferson Medical College
Dr. Sivak is a graduate of New York Medical College and completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at the
Metropolitan Hospital Center in New York City. He then served as chief resident at Westchester County Medical Center. Over
the last 20 years, Dr. Sivak’s career has been dedicated to the education of medical students and residents in internal medicine.
He was the director of the third-year course in internal medicine at New York Medical College for 10 years and later led two
internal medicine residencies, a medicine/pediatrics program and one transitional year residency as program director. Dr.
Sivak has developed and implemented many innovative curricula during this time. His research interests include decision analytical
techniques and medical informatics. Dr. Sivak is a fellow of the American College of Physicians as well as a member of Phi
Beta Kappa and Alpha Omega Alpha. He is also the recipient of numerous teaching awards from students and residents.
Glenn Eiger, MD
Associate Chairman, Department of Medicine; Program Director, Internal Medicine and Transitional Year Residency Programs
Dr. Eiger is Associate Chairman for the Department of Medicine and Associate Professor of Medicine at Jefferson Medical College.
He is a member of the Division of Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Eiger is the recipient of the 1996, 1997
and 1998 Chief Residents' Award for Excellence in Clinical Teaching. In 1998 he received the Temple University School of Medicine
Blockley-Osler Award for Excellence in Clinical Teaching. Dr. Eiger completed his residency and chief residency at Beth Israel
Medical Center and his fellowship in pulmonary disease and critical care medicine at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Omega Alpha. Dr. Eiger is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and the
American College of Chest Physicians.
Richard Allman, MD
Associate Program Director, Internal Medicine; Firm Chief, Firm C
Dr. Allman is President, Albert Einstein Medical Center Medical Staff, Chairman of the MossRehab Ethics Committee and a member
of the Einstein Institutional Ethics Committee. He is a graduate of Jefferson Medical College and the Allentown Hospital (now
Lehigh Valley Affiliated Program) Internal Medicine Residency Program. Dr. Allman completed a rheumatology fellowship at Boston
University Hospital and his rheumatology fellowship at Temple University Hospital. He is board certified in internal medicine
and rheumatology and is an Associate Professor of Medicine, Jefferson Medical College and Affiliate Scholar, Center for Clinical
Bioethics, Georgetown University School of Medicine. Dr. Allman is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and the
recipient of a 1998 Faculty Council Teaching Award.
Philip O. Katz, MD
Associate Program Director, Internal Medicine Residency Program; Chairman, Division of Gastroenterology
Dr. Katz received his medical degree from the Bowman Gray School of Medicine at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North
Carolina. He served his residency and chief residency in internal medicine, followed by a fellowship in gastroenterology at
the Bowman Gray School of Medicine. He is board certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology. Dr. Katz has brought
his state-of-the-art esophageal testing laboratory to Einstein and is developing an active clinical and research practice
in this area. His research interests include all aspects of gastroesophageal reflux disease, including nocturnal recovery
of gastric acid secretion during proton pump inhibitor therapy and esophageal pain perception. Dr. Katz is a practicing clinician
with active teaching and editorial positions. In addition to lecturing on many gastroenterology-related topics, Dr. Katz is
an editorial reviewer for Annals of Internal Medicine, American Journal of Gastroenterology, Gastroenterology, Journal of
the American Geriatric Association, and Digestive Diseases and Sciences. He has contributed to the publication of over 120
peer-reviewed papers, numerous abstracts, books, book chapters, and monographs.
Nina Mingioni, MD
Associate Program Director, Internal Medicine Residency Program; Course Director of Jefferson Medical College Medicine Clerkship.
Dr. Mingioni received her medical degree from New York University School of Medicine and completed her internship and internal
medicine residency training at Albert Einstein Medical Center. She then served as Chief Medical Resident. Dr. Mingioni is
board certified in internal medicine and has special interest in areas of preventive medicine, managing patients with multiple
medical conditions, diabetes and hypertension. D.
Robert Watterson, MD
Program Director, Internal Medicine-Pediatrics Residency Program
Dr. Watterson is board certified in both internal medicine and pediatrics and holds appointments in both departments. Dr.
Watterson is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He completed his Medicine-Pediatrics Residency
at Albert Einstein Medical Center and then served one year as Chief Resident for the Department of Medicine. In addition,
Dr. Watterson was the recipient of the Frank Hammond Sivitz Award for significant contribution by a resident to housestaff
"esprit d'corps" in 2001 and 2002. He also received the Sydney Borowski Comprehensive Physician Award in 2002. Dr. Watterson was appointed
Medicine-Pediatrics Program Director in July 2003.
Cardiovascular Disease
D. Lynn Morris, MD
Chairman, Division of Cardiology
Dr Morris received his medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina. He completed his internship and residency
training in the Department of Medicine at the University of Virginia Hospital, Charlottesville, Virginia and served as Chief
Medical Resident at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Morris completed his fellowship in Cardiology at the
University of California, San Francisco and a research fellowship at the Cardiovascular Research Institute. He is board certified
in interventional cardiology, cardiovascular disease and internal medicine. Prior to joining Albert Einstein, Dr. Morris
served as Chief of Cardiology at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown, Pennsylvania, and Chief of Cardiac Catheterization Laboratories
and Interventional Cardiology at Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, Pennsylvania. Dr. Morris, who is Clinical Professor
of Medicine at Jefferson Medical College, has been clinical investigator in more than 25 drug and device trials and reviewer
of several cardiology, peer-reviewed journals. He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology, the Council on Clinical
Cardiology, the American Heart Association, the American College of Chest Physicians, the Society for Cardiac Angiography
and Interventions, and a member of Alpha Omega Alpha. Dr. Morris was named among "Top Docs" in Cardiovascular Disease in
the United States in 1996, 1998, 1999, 2002, 2005 and 2006.
Morris Kotler, MD is Emeritus Chairman, Division of Cardiovascular Disease and Professor of Medicine at Jefferson Medical College. Dr. Kotler
is a member of the editorial boards of the American Journal of Cardiology and the American Journal of Non-Invasive Cardiology. He is Past President of the Philadelphia Chapter of the American Heart Association and the recipient of a 1997 Faculty Council
Teaching Award. Dr. Kotler is the author of over 250 scientific articles, 80 abstracts and 50 book chapters. He was named
among the Top Docs in cardiology in a 1999 issue of Philadelphia Magazine.
Vincent M. Figueredo, MD, FAHA, FACC, is the Director of the Cardiovascular Diseases Fellowship Programs at Albert Einstein Medical Center and an Associate Professor
of Medicine, Jefferson Medical College. Prior to joining the Einstein faculty in January 2007, he held various leadership
and teaching positions including Chair, Cardiology and Cardiothoracic Surgery Department at Lovelace Health Systems in New
Mexico, Clinical Associate Professor at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center, Assistant Professor of Medicine
at the University of California, San Francisco, and Director of the Echocardiography Laboratory at San Francisco General Hospital.
Dr. Figueredo completed his internal medicine residency training at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center and cardiology fellowship
at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Figueredo is active in scholarly activity with over 40 peer-reviewed
publications and is an invited speaker at many institution's grand rounds. In addition, he serves as a reviewer for several
peer-reviewed publications and is an invited speaker at many institution's grand rounds. In addition, he serves as a reviewer
for several peer-review journals and is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Diseases,
the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology, the National Board of Echocardiography and the American Society of Hypertension.
As the Cardiovascular Diseases Fellowship Programs Director, Dr. Figueredo devotes the majority of his time to the administration
of the cardiology fellowship programs, and to the teaching and mentoring of fellows and housestaff.
Gregg S. Pressman, MD, FACC received his medical degree from Temple University. He then completed his internal medicine residency training and cardiology
fellowship at Graduate Hospital, Philadelphia. He spent the next 19 years in private practice while maintaining teaching positions
at the University of Pennsylvania and St. Francis Medical Center in Trenton, New Jersey. Dr Pressman joined the Einstein
faculty in 2006. He is board certified in cardiovascular diseases and has additional board certification in Special Competence
in adult comprehensive echocardiography. Dr. Pressman's research interests include mitral valve disease and sleep apnea.
He serves as a reviewer for the American Journal of Cardiology and the International Journal of Cardiology. In January 2007
he was appointed Associate Director of the Cardiovascular Diseases Fellowship Training Program.
Craig Oliner, MD is Director of the Cardiac Care Unit and Associate Professor of Medicine at Jefferson Medical College, Thomas Jefferson University.
He is board certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease. Dr. Oliner received his medical degree from the Medical
College of Pennsylvania in 1980. He completed his internal medicine residency at Temple University Hospital and cardiology
fellowship at the Medical College of Virginia. After fellowship, he held research associate positions in cardiology and clinical
pharmacology at the University of Chicago, where he directed the exercise physiology laboratory. Dr. Oliner has authored
a number of manuscripts and abstracts on topics such as B-blockade and mental performance, and predication of ventricular
functional recovery with I-123 phenylpemtadecanoic acid after coronary revascularization. He also has served as a reviewer
for the Journal of Cardiovascular Pharmacology and Chest.
Shahriar Yazdanfar, MD is Director, Section of Invasive, Diagnostic and Interventional Cardiology; Director, Interventional Cardiology Fellowship
Program. Dr. Yazdanfar completed his clinical and research fellowships in cardiology at Temple University Hospital. He is
published extensively in the field of interventional cardiology and is an investigator in TIMI, GUSTO I and GUSTO II. Dr.
Yazdanfar is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, the American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology.
He is board certified in internal medicine and cardiology. Dr. Yazdanfar is the recipient of an Albert Einstein Medical Center
Clinical Teacher of the Year Award and was named among the "Top Docs" in interventional cardiology in the May, 1999 issue
of Philadelphia Magazine.
Marjorie Stanek, MD is Director, Cardiac Stress Laboratory . Dr. Stanek has served on the Council on Clinical Cardiology Committee on Exercise and Cardiac Rehabilitation of the American
Heart Association and the Board of Governors of the American Heart Association. She is Treasurer of the Albert Einstein Medical
Center Medical Staff Board of Directors. Dr. Stanek completed her internal medicine residency at Brown University- Rhode Island
Hospital and Hahnemann University Hospital and her cardiology fellowship at the Medical College of Pennsylvania Hospital.
Aman M. Amanullah, MD, PhD, FACC, FASE, FAHA is the Section Chief of Noninvasive Cardiology and full time faculty member of the Division of Cardiovascular Diseases. He
is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Jefferson Medical College. Dr. Amanullah is board certified by the American Board
of Internal Medicine and the Subspecialty Board of Cardiovascular Diseases, the Certification Board of Nuclear Cardiology
and the National Board of Echocardiography. A fellow of the American College of Cardiology, American Heart Association, American
Society of Nuclear Cardiology and American Society of Echocardiography, Dr. Amanullah is also a member of several other professional
societies, including the Certification Board of Nuclear Cardiology's Practice Analysis Task Force and a Founding Member of
the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography. He has conducted extensive clinical research in noninvasive cardiology
and has authored more than 85 articles and abstracts appearing in peer-reviewed journals including Journal of the American
College of Cardiology and American Heart Journal. Dr. Amanullah obtained his medical degree from the Institute of Medicine
in Bucharest, and his PhD from Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden. He completed fellowship training in cardiology
at Karolinska Institute at Stockholm South Hospital, Sweden and a noninvasive cardiology fellowship at Cedars-Sinai Medical
Center in Los Angeles.
Joyleen E. Earle, MD received her medical degree from New York University School of Medicine and completed an internship and residency training
in internal medicine at Montefiore Hospital and Medical Center in New York. She completed a fellowship in cardiology at Booth
Memorial Medical Center in New York. Dr. Earle is an attending cardiologist at Germantown Community Health Services. She
is board certified in cardiology and internal medicine. Dr. Earle is a a member of the American College of Cardiology.
Leonard Greenberg, MD is Past President, Albert Einstein Medical Center Medical Staff and Professor of Medicine at Jefferson Medical College. Dr.
Greenberg is a graduate of Jefferson Medical College and the Einstein Internal Medicine Residency and Cardiology Fellowship
Programs. He is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha and a fellow of the American College of Physicians and the American College
of Cardiology.
Allan Greenspan, MD is Codirector of the Electrophysiology Lab and Heart Station. He is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School
of Medicine. Dr. Greenspan completed his internal medicine residency at Bellevue Hospital and his fellowship training in
cardiology and electrophysiology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
Frank James, MD, FACC is board certified in cardiology; critical care medicine and internal medicine. Dr. James received his medical degree from the
University of Pennsylvania. He completed his residency training, an internship and a fellowship at Temple University Hospital.
Dr. James is a fellow in the American College of Physicians, the Association of Black Cardiologists, the American College
of Cardiology and the Council on Clinical Cardiology of the American Hospital Association. He is also a member of the National
Medical Association, the Medical Society of Eastern Pennsylvania, the American Society of Hypertension and the American College
of Chest Physicians. Dr. James is a certified by the American Society of Hypertension as a Hypertensive Specialist and is
a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians.
Joel M. Kupfer, MD earned his medical degree from Mount. Sinai School of Medicine. He completed his internship at Wadsworth-VA Medical Center
and residency at Duke University Medical Center. Dr. Kupfer completed fellowship training at the New York Hospital-Cornell
Medical Center. He completed additional research and clinical fellow training at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Dr. Kupfer
is a peripheral interventional cardiologist who has been in academic and clinical practice for 15 years before joining the
Einstein faculty. He is board certified in internal medicine, cardiology and interventional cardiology.
Nicholas Langan, MD earned his medical degree at Sackler School of Medicine in Tel Aviv, Israel. He completed his residency and an internship
in internal medicine at Downstate Medical Center/Kings County Medical Center/Brooklyn Veterans Hospital. Dr. Langan completed
cardiology fellowships at Medical College of Pennsylvania and Philadelphia Veterans Hospital. He also completed a cardiac
imaging fellowship in nuclear cardiology and echocardiography at Medical College of Pennsylvania. He is board certified in
internal medicine and cardiovascular disease, and is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. He has recently recertifed
by the American Board of Internal Medicine in cardiovascular disease in 2001.
Darshak Karia, MD is the Director of Heart Failure Services at Einstein. He attended medical school at the Baroda Medical College in Baroda,
India and completed internship training at MCP-Hahnemann University and residency at the University of Connecticut. Dr. Karia
completed cardiovascular fellowship training at the University of Minnesota and Tufts University New England Medical Center.
He completed fellowship training in Congestive Heart Failure/Cardiac Transplant at the University of Minnesota, from July
2004-2005. Additionally, Dr. Karia completed a postdoctoral fellowship with the American Heart Association. He is board
certified in internal medicine and cardiology. Dr. Karia has clinical experience taking care of patients with end stage CHF,
pre- and post-transplant and pre- and post-operative device implantation.
Deborah Braverman, MD is a graduate of Cornell University Medical College. She completed residency training in physical medicine and rehabilitation
at the New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center. Dr. Braverman is a nationally recognized provider of Enhanced External Counterpulsation
(EECP) an innovative treatment for patients with advanced coronary artery disease.
Dennis Sarabi, MD, PhD received his medical degree and Ph.D. from the University of Uppsala. He completed residency training in internal medicine
and a fellowship in cardiology at the Albert Einstein Medical Center. Dr. Sarabi joined the Einstein faculty in 2007. Parul Patel, MD received her medical degree from State University of New York at Downstate. She completed her residency in internal medicine
at NYU Medical center where she also served as Chief Medical Resident. After her fellowship in cardiology at Thomas Jefferson
University Hospital she completed a one-year fellowship in interventional cardiology. She joined the faculty at Einstein
in 2007. 
Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism
Arthur Chernoff, MD, FACE
Chairman, Division of Endocrinology; Medical Director, Gutman Diabetes Institute
Dr. Chernoff is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and completed an internship at Pennsylvania
Hospital, Residency in Internal Medicine at Columbia-Presbyterian Hospital in NY. Dr. Chernoff was a Clinical Associate at
the National Institutes of Health and a Fellowship in Endocrinology & Metabolism at Columbia-Presbyterian Hospital in NY.
He returned to Philadelphia where he established a clinical practice in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology. He has been cited
nationally as a "Top Doc" as both an Internist and Endocrinologist. Dr. Chernoff’s clinical practice focuses on consultative
endocrinology and the primary care of the endocrine patient. He is a fellow of the American College of Endocrinology and has
been involved in both basic and clinical research. Dr. Chernoff’s areas of special interest are Arteriosclerosis, Diabetes,
and Thyroid disease.
Catherine Anastasopoulou, MD, PhD, FACE is a graduate of the Medical School of Athens. She completed medical training in Greece before coming to the US. Dr. Anastasopoulou
trained in Internal Medicine at the Albert Einstein Medical Center and completed her Fellowship in Endocrinology at the LAC/USC
Medical Center in Los Angeles. Her clinical practice focuses on consultative endocrinology. Dr. Anastasopoulou was a clinical
research collaborator for the Diabetes Prevention Trial-1 Study Group. She has translated several medical texts from English
into Greek and has published in the areas of Diabetes and Bone & Mineral Metabolism. Dr. Anastasopoulou is a member of American
Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, American Diabetes Association and The Endocrine Society, and is a Fellow of the
American College of Endocrinology. Her area of special interest is Osteoporosis (Male and Female) and calcium disorders. She
is an Assistant Professor of Medicine, Jefferson Medical College.
Nissa Blocher, MD is a graduate of the Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed her internal medicine residency training and
a fellowship in endocrinology at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Blocher, who joined the Einstein faculty in 2007 has
a special interest in the management of the diabetic patient.

Philip O. Katz, MD

Mustafa Alnounou, MD is a graduate of Damascas University School of Medicine. His internship and first year of residency training was conducted
at the University of Illinois, Michael Reese Hospital, Chicago. He completed his internal medicine residency at St. Vincent
Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. He completed his fellowship in gastroenterology at Indiana University. He complete a
one-year hepatology fellowship at Albert Einstein Medical Center and an advanced interventional endoscopy at Fox Chase Cancer
Center.
Robert S. Dudnick, MD is a graduate of the University of Medicine and Dentistry in New Jersey. He completed his internship in internal medicine
at the University of Michigan Medical Center and his internal medicine residency at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York.
Dr. Dudnick completed his fellowship in gastroenterology at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. He is board certified
in internal medicine and gastroenterology.
Richard Menin, MD completed internal medicine residency at the Medical College of Virginia and fellowship in gastroenterology at Temple University.
He completed his gastroenterology fellowship at Temple University School of Medicine and is board certified in internal medicine
and gastroenterology. Dr. Menin leads a biweekly cancer management conference and sponsors many colon cancer screening programs.
Daniel Sher, MD is Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine, Temple University School of Medicine and Drexel University School of Medicine
and a member of Philadelphia Gastroenterology Consultants. He is an active member of the teaching faculty. Dr. Sher has participated
in many multi center clinical trials and has been a co-author of several publications involving intragastric pH monitoring.
General Internal Medicine
Mark Capkin, MD
Chairman, Division of General Internal Medicine; Chairman, Division Quality Assurance Committee
Dr. Capkin is a graduate of the Einstein Internal Medicine Residency Program and served as Chief Resident in 1983-84. He attended
Temple University School of Medicine and is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha. He is the recipient of a 1999 Faculty Council Teaching
Award.
Michael Goldfinger, MD is Firm Chief of Firm C and Director of Continuous Quality Improvement for the Department of Medicine. Dr. Goldfinger completed
his internal medicine residency and served as Chief Resident at Eisenhower Army Medical Center in Fort Gordon, GA. He served
as Medical Director of the Lipid Clinic and Chief of the Internal Medicine Consultation Service at Eisenhower Army Medical
Center. Dr. Goldfinger is the recipient of a 1999 Faculty Council Teaching Award.
Jody Borgman, MD is Director, Immunodeficiency Center . Dr. Borgman completed his internal medicine residency at Einstein Medical Center and served as chief resident in 1992-93.
He is a graduate of Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. Dr. Borgman is the recipient of a Faculty Council
Teaching Award.
Rhonda Haston, MD is a graduate of Cornell University and the University of Maryland School of Medicine. She completed her internal medicine
residency and was a junior medicine associate in the Primary Care Clinical Program at Graduate Hospital. Dr. Haston is a member
of the staff of the Marion-Louise Saltzman Women's Center and serves on its steering committee.
Young Nam Kim, MD completed his internal medicine residency at the Medical College of Ohio Hospital and his endocrinology fellowship at Temple
University Hospital. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Dr. Kim serves the Northern Philadelphia Korean Community
as a physician at Philip Jaisohn Memorial Medical Clinic. Dr. Kim is board certified in internal medicine and endocrinology.
Marvin Schatz, DO is Lead physician of the Hospitalist Unit and Program Director of the Osteopathic Rotating Internship at Albert Einstein
Medical Center. Dr. Schatz is a graduate of the College of Osteopathic Medicine, Des Moines, Iowa. He completed his internal
medicine residency at Parkview Hospital, Philadelphia and is board certified in internal medicine. Dr. Schatz is the recipient
of the Voluntary Faculty award in 2001 and the Herbert S. Waxman, MD award for Excellence in Clinical Teaching in 2003 and
2005.
Peyman Markazi, DO is a graduate of the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his internal medicine residency training
at Lehigh Valley Hospital. Dr. Markazi, is board certified in internal medicine and is a member of the American College of
Physicians/American Society of Internal Medicine. He joined the faculty in 2003.
Jacqueline Bowers, MD is a graduate of Howard University College of Medicine and completed her internal medicine residency training at Albert Einstein
Medical Center. Dr. Bowers joined the faculty in 2001.
Raghan Abouasalah, MD received her medical degree from Damascus University and completed her internship and internal medicine residency training
at Providence Hospital in Southfield, Michigan. She then served as Chief Resident at Mountainside Hospital in Montclair, New
Jersey. Dr. Abouasalah joined the Einstein faculty in 2006.
Anita Govil, MD received her medical degree from India and completed her internal medicine residency at Graduate Hospital in Philadelphia.
Dr. Govil worked as a hospitalist at Crozer-Chester Medical Center. She joined the Einstein faculty in 2005.
Roberta Turner, MD received her medical degree from The University of Virginia and completed her internship and internal medicine residency
training at Presbyterian Hospital, University of Pennsylvania and then completed her residency at Hahnemann University where
she served as Chief Resident at Hahnemann University. She received additional training in palliative medicine at Stanford
University and is board certified in hospice and palliative medicine. Prior to joining Albert Einstein, Dr Turner was the
Medical Director of Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, in North Carolina. Dr. Turner is the Medical Director of
the Palliative Care Program at Einstein.
Geriatrics
Richard Grant, MD, MPH
Chairman, Division of Geriatrics and Medical Director of the Philadelphia campus of the Allegheny Valley School
Dr. Grant is a graduate of Boston University School of Medicine. He was medical director of the psycho-geriatric unit and
director of primary care medicine at the Massachusetts State Hospital at Westboro before coming to Philadelphia in 1991. Dr.

Todd Goldberg, MD is Director of the Geriatric Medicine Fellowship Program and Medical Director of Paul's Run Retirement Community and Glendale
Uptown Home. Dr. Goldberg is a graduate of New York University School of Medicine and completed his internal medicine residency
at Graduate Hospital and his fellowships in general internal medicine and geriatrics at the Hospital of the University of
Pennsylvania. Dr. Goldberg is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, a Certified Medical Director, and holds a Masters

Susan Moyer, MD is a graduate of the Medical College of Virginia and the Einstein Internal Medicine Residency Program. She served as chief
resident in 1983-84 and Director of Hospice from 1985 to 1994. Dr. Moyer, who is Director of Stapely in Germantown, is a member
of the Institutional Ethics Committee. She is board certified in internal medicine and geriatric medicine.
Claudine Clarke, MD is a graduate of Howard University College of Medicine. She completed her internal medicine residency and fellowship in geriatrics
at Einstein Medical Center. Dr. Clarke, who is board certified in internal medicine and geriatric medicine, joined the Einstein

William Tester, MD, FACP
Chairman, Division of Hematology/Oncology; Director, Cancer Center and Einstein's Lung Cancer Program
Dr. Tester is a graduate of the Albert Einstein Internal Medicine Residency Program and served as chief resident in 1979-1980.
Dr. Tester completed a hematology fellowship at Georgetown University Hospital and his medical oncology fellowship at the
National Cancer Institute. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians. He also serves as Director of the Jefferson
Cancer Network clinical trials program. He has received the Chief Residents' Award in honor of Herbert Waxman for Excellence
in Clinical Teaching, the Faculty Council Research Award and the American Cancer Society Cancer Control Award.
Jeffrey Cohn, MD is Public Safety Officer for Albert Einstein Healthcare Network. Dr. Cohn is a graduate of Einstein Medical Center's Medicine
Residency Program. He completed his hematology-oncology fellowship training at Emory University Hospital and was a research
fellow in oncology at Johns Hopkins University Hospital. Dr. Cohn is the recipient of the Chief Residents' Award for Excellence
in Clinical Teaching.
Ajit Desai, MD is Chairman of the Tumor Board and a member of Einstein's Medical Staff Board. Dr. Desai is principal investigator in the
National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project and the Breast Cancer Prevention Trial. He is co-investigator for the
Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group. Dr. Desai is the recipient of the Chief Residents' Award for Excellence in Clinical Teaching.
John Leighton, MD is a graduate of the Einstein Internal Medicine Residency Program. He completed his fellowship in hematology-oncology at
Temple University Hospital-Fox Chase Cancer Center and returned to Einstein Medical Center in 1995 to join the full-time faculty.
Dr. Leighton serves as principal investigator for Gastrointestinal Malignancy clinical trials performed at the Albert Einstein
Cancer Center. He is the recipient of the 1999 Chief Residents' Award for Excellence in Clinical Teaching and a 1999 Faculty
Council Teaching Award.
Rebecca Jaslow, MD completed her internal medicine residency at Mount Sinai Medical Center, New York and her fellowship in hematology/oncology
at the New York Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center. Dr. Jaslow, who is board certified in internal medicine,
hematology and oncology, joined the Division of Hematology/Oncology in 1992.
Mitchell Goldstein, MD completed his hematology/oncology fellowship at the Cardeza Foundation for Hematologic Research at Thomas Jefferson University
Hospital. He received his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and his internal medicine residency
at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. Dr. Goldstein joined the Division of Hematology/Oncology in 2004.
Alan Friedman, MD received his medical degree from Hahnemann Medical College, Philadelphia and competed his internship and internal medicine
residency training at Albert Einstein Medical Center. Dr. Friedman completed his fellowship in Hematology at Sloan Kettering
and in Oncology at Jefferson Medical College. He is board certified in internal medicine, hematology and oncology.
Mark Morginstin, DO is a graduate of the University of Medicine and Dentistry in New Jersey and completed his internship in internal medicine
at the University of Michigan Medical Center. He completed his internal medicine residency training at Albert Einstein where
he also served as chief medical resident. He was awarded the Peter Mazzoni Memorial Award for humanism, integrity and compassion
at the end of his internal medicine residency. Dr. Morginstin completed a fellowship in Hematology and Oncology at the University
of Connecticut Health Center. He is the recipient of numerous awards including the Humanitarian Service Medal and the Commendation
Medal for Meritorious Service from the United States Air Force.
Hepatology
Santiago Munoz, MD
Chairman, Division of Hepatology; Director, Center for Liver Disease; Medical Director, Liver Transplantation Program; Interim
Director, Gastroenterology
Dr. Munoz is principal investigator of a NIH Clinical trial for acute liver failure and the recipient of an American Liver Foundation
Investigator of the Year Award. He is the principal investigator for a Phase I novel artificial liver assist device for patients
with liver failure. Dr. Munoz is a member of the Editorial Board of the journal Liver Transplantation and a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. He is a principal and co investigator of numerous grants and clinical
trials in chronic hepatitis C virus infection. Dr. Munoz completed his training at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and is
the author of over 150 publications, review articles and book chapters. He was named by Philadelphia Magazine as Top Docs
in gastroenterology in 2002, 2004, 2005 and 2006.
Kenneth Rothstein, MD is Associate Director of the Center for Liver Disease. Dr. Rothstein is a member of the Medical Advisory Committee of the Delaware
Chapter of the American Liver Foundation and the Board of the Hepatitis B Foundation. He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He
is a graduate of Emory University School of Medicine, the Emory internal medicine residency program, and the gastroenterology
and hepatology fellowship programs at Temple University Hospital.Dr. Rothstein's main area of clinical interest is the treatment
of non responders and relapsers.
Victor Araya, MD is a Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology. He graduated from the George Washington University School of Medicine
and Health Sciences and complete internal medicine residency at Temple University School of Medicine and a gastroenterology
and hepatology fellowship at the University of Florida School of Medicine. Dr. Araya was also an Assistant Professor of Medicine
in gastroenterology and hepatology at the University of Pittsburgh, as well as Director of the Clinical Trials Unit for pre
and post-liver transplant clinical research at the Tomas E. Starzl Transplant Center. He has authored and co-authored multiple
research articles and has presented his research at multiple national meetings on hepatitis C and hepatitis B before and after
liver transplantation. He is currently developing, and is principal investigator and co-investigator on several national
clinical trials for hepatitis B and C.
Mumtaz Niazi, MD is a graduate of Punjob Medical College and completed his internal medicine residency training at Long Island College of Medicine,
New York. He completed hepatology training at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey.
Eyob Feyssa, MD, MPH received his medical degree from the Jimma Institute of Health Sciences in Ethiopia. He completed his internal medicine residency
training at Harbor Hospital Center in Baltimore where served as Chief Medical Resident and received the Tah-Hsiung Hsu, MD
director's award. Dr. Feyessa completed training in hepatology at the Sammy Davis Jr National Liver Institute of the University
of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey Liver Center.
Ashraf Malek, MD received his medical degree from the Sir Salimullah Medical College in Bangladesh. He completed his internal medicine residency

Robert Fischer, MD
Chairman, Division of Infectious Disease; Firm Chief of Firm A and Co-Chairman of the HIV Committee
Dr. Fischer obtained his BA in physics, magna cum laude, his MS in applied mathematics and his MD from Harvard University.
Dr. Fischer completed his internal medicine residency at LA County-USC Medical Center and his fellowship in infectious disease
at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. Dr. Fischer is the recipient of an Albert Einstein Medical Center Clinical
Teacher of the Year Award and a Faculty Council Teaching Award.
Jerry M. Zuckerman, MD is Medical Director of the Infection Prevention and Control Department and Chairman of the Infection Control Quality Assessment
and Improvement Group. Dr. Zuckerman is a graduate of Cornell University Medical College. He completed his internal medicine
residency at Temple University Hospital and his infectious disease fellowship at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
He is board certified in infectious diseases.
Bartholomew Bono, MD is a graduate of Temple University School of Medicine. He completed his internal medicine residency at Mount Sinai Medical
Center in New York. Dr. Bono completed his infectious disease fellowship at Temple University and is board certified by the
American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine and infectious disease. Dr. Bono joined the medical staff at Albert
Einstein in the summer of 2003.
Aaron Kosmin, MD received his medical degree from Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and completed an internal medicine residency at Temple
University Hospital. He then served as Chief Resident at Temple and completed his fellowship training in Infectious Diseases
at Temple. Dr. Kosmin, who is board certified in internal medicine and infectious diseases, has special interests in travel
medicine and clinical microbiology. He is the 2007 recipient of the Chief Residents' Award in honor of Herbert S. Waxman,
MD for Excellence in Clinical Teaching.
Sarah Perloff, DO is a graduate of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey School of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed her
internal medicine residency training at the University of Connecticut and a fellowship in infectious diseases at the Thomas
Jefferson University Hospital. Dr. Perloff joined the Einstein faculty in September 2007.
Gregory Mayro, MD is a graduate of Jefferson Medical College. He completed his internal medicine residency training and a fellowship in infectious
diseases at Temple University Hospital. Dr Mayro's research area of interest include HIV disease and pneumonia. Dr. Mayro
joined the Einstein faculty in September 2007.

Eric Bloom, MD
Chairman, Kraftsow Division of Nephrology; Director of the Nephrology Fellowship Program
Dr. Bloom is Director of Bio-Medical Applications, Northeast Philadelphia. He is a graduate of Temple University School of
Medicine and the Medical College of Pennsylvania Hospital Internal Medicine Residency Program. Dr. Bloom completed his nephrology
fellowship at Temple University Hospital.
Stephen Goldstein, MD is Director of Renal Treatment Centers. Dr. Goldstein is a graduate of the Medical College of Wisconsin. Dr. Goldstein completed
his internal medicine residency and nephrology fellowship at Hahnemann University Hospital. He is the recipient of a 1998
Faculty Council Teaching Award.
Rasib Raja, MD is Professor of Medicine at Jefferson Medical College. Dr. Raja is the author of over 100 scientific articles and 200 abstracts.
Dr. Raja is a member of the Research Committee of the Kidney Foundation of Southeastern Pennsylvania and principal investigator
for two trials of Epogen in hemodialysis patients. He completed his internal medicine residency and nephrology fellowship
at Einstein Medical Center.
Imara Dissanayake, MD is a graduate of the Einstein Internal Medical Residency Program. Dr. Dissanayake has had extensive research experience and
completed training in the ABIM Clinical Investigator Pathway. She has published numerous abstracts and articles in the area
of bone mineralization and metabolism. Dr. Dissanayake recently finished her fellowship in nephrology at Thomas Jefferson
University Hospital. She is board certified in nephrology and internal medicine.
Shiang-Cheng Kung, MD is a graduate of University of Witwatersrand Medical School in South Africa. He completed his internal medicine residency
program at Albert Einstein Medical Center where he also completed his Nephrology Fellowship. Dr. Kung is board certified
in internal medicine and nephrology. He is a member of the American College of Physicians and American Society of Nephrology.

William J. Gaughan, M D is a graduate of Hahnemann Medical College. He completed his internal medicine residency program at Abington Memorial hospital.
Dr. Gaughan completed his neprhology fellowship at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. He is certified in both internal

Michael Lippmann, MD
Chairman, Division of Pulmonary Disease & Critical Care Medicine and Director of the Pulmonary Fellowship Program
Dr. Lippmann is a reviewer for Lung and Chest and Past Secretary of the ABIM Critical Care Medicine Test and Policy Committee.
He completed his internal medicine residency at Yale-New Haven Hospital and his pulmonary disease fellowship at Bronx Municipal
Hospital. Dr. Lippmann is board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary disease and critical care medicine. He is a member

Steven K. Goldberg, MD is Director of the Medical Intensive Care Unit. Dr. Goldberg received his medical degree from Georgetown University and completed his

Medical Center. He is the recipient of an NIH Pulmonary Academic Award and the Chief Residents' Award for Excellence in Clinical

Michael Walkenstein, MD is Associate Director of the Pulmonary Function Laboratory . Dr. Walkenstein is principal investigator of a controlled trial of antiendotoxin antibody in sepsis. Dr. Walkenstein is a graduate
of Tufts University School of Medicine and the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Medical College of Virginia Hospital.
He completed his pulmonary fellowship at Strong Memorial Hospital-University of Rochester. Dr. Walkenstein is the recipient
of the Chief Residents' Award for Excellence in Clinical Teaching.
Ganesan Murali, MD is Director of the Albert Einstein Sleep Center. Dr. Murali is a graduate of Madras Medical College in India. Dr. Murali
completed internal medicine training at Graduate Hospital in Philadelphia. He completed his Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellowship
at Einstein. He is board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary disease, critical care medicine and sleep medicine. Dr.
Murali is also a member of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland. Dr. Murali received the Louis B. Schatz Memorial Award
in recognition of academic and clinical excellence among house staff in 2002 and the Chief Residents' Award in honor of Herbert
Waxman for Excellence in Clinical Teaching in 2006.
Arshad A. Wani, MD received his medical degree from Government Medical College, Srinagar, India and underwent internship and internal medicine

Lawrence Brent, MD
Chairman, Division of Rheumatology & Clinical Immunology and Director of the Rheumatology Fellowship Program
Dr. Brent is a graduate of Penn State University and Jefferson Medical College. He completed his internal medicine residency
and rheumatology fellowship at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and a research fellowship in immunology and pediatric
rheumatology at the University of Alabama Medical Center. Dr. Brent is a member of the American College of Physicians, the
American College of Rheumatology and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He is a past recipient of the
Arthritis Foundation Postdoctoral Research Fellowship Award. Areas of interest include systemic lupus erythematosus, spondyloarthropathies,
idiopathic inflammatory myopathies, and pediatric rheumatology. He is actively involved in clinical research and clinical
trials.
Mythili Seetharaman, MD is a graduate of Madras Medical College in India. She completed a residency in internal medicine at Crozer Chester Medical
Center and her fellowship in rheumatology at Albert Einstein. Dr. Seetharaman is board certified in internal medicine and
rheumatology and is a member of the American College of Rheumatology. She joined the Einstein faculty in 2002. Dr. Seetharaman's
area of special interests include rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic and myositis.
Dana Jacobs-Kosmin, MD received her medical degree from Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, Piscataway, NJ, and completed her internship and internal
medicine residency at Temple University Hospital. Dr. Jacobs-Kosmin completed her fellowship training in Rheumatology at Thomas
Jefferson University and is board certified in internal medicine and rheumatology. She has special interests in the areas
of systemic lupus erythematosus and osteoporosis.
