Albert Einstein Medical Center's osteopathic rotating internship offers an outstanding balance between academics and clinical
experience in core disciplines. The program is unique for its ability to tailor the curriculum to the individual needs of
each resident so that the internship also meets the requirements of ACGME accreditation in the categorical programs of internal medicine, ob/gyn, pediatrics or psychiatry. As with all Einstein residencies, the program emphasizes teaching, camaraderie, teamwork and learning.
Our program trains eight osteopathic interns each year. The residency program is structured to ensure that each intern has
the opportunity to acquire the knowledge, clinical skills, interpersonal skills, professional attitudes and behaviors, and
experience to be a highly competent physician who will be competitive in any chosen field.
The internship focuses on fundamentals of differential diagnosis and clinical problem solving. Interns master the techniques
of history-taking and physical examination, gain expertise in the care of patients in a variety of inpatient and outpatient
settings and to develop competence in procedural skills. Osteopathic interns also will be expected to master the techniques
of structural examination and manipulative treatment. Structural exams will be reviewed by the attending physician and regular
conferences will be held to review and discuss structural and palpatory diagnosis and manipulative treatment. Interns also
will be required to attend osteopathic manipulative medicine conferences (OMM) regularly held at the Philadelphia College
of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM).
Albert Einstein Medical Center's Osteopathic Rotating Internship has a designated Residency Program Director, Marvin Schatz,
DO who has day-to-day responsibility for all interns in the program. Our Osteopathic Director of Medical Education, Douglas McGee, DO is responsible for the oversight of all osteopathic training programs at Albert Einstein Medical Center.
