Attention to resident life is an important component of the transitional year program's commitment to its residents.
Night Call
On general medicine and telemetry, transitional residents are on call every fourth night and admit an average of three new
patients per night. Admissions are capped at five per night. Additional patients are admitted to the nonteaching service or
covered by a supervising senior resident. A day float system is in place to allow the postcall transitional resident to leave
the hospital by 10:30 a.m. On the critical care service, transitional residents are on call every sixth night. Transitional
year residents have no night call responsibilities during emergency medicine, ambulatory care or elective rotations.
Family Friendly
We encourage transitional year residents to maintain a sense of balance in their lives. Frequent outings and our corporate
membership in a full-service fitness and racquet club help ease the pressures of resident life.
