Child and Adolescent Treatment Options

  • The region’s only psychiatric hospital with outpatient services for children and adolescents.

    Belmont offers a broad range of treatment options, from outpatient day programs to hospitalization, also called inpatient treatment. Our goal is to pair patients with the proper course of action to put them on the path to recovery in a safe, confidential setting.

    Nurturing Environment

    The period of inpatient treatment ranges from a few days to a few months. We offer academic instruction by certified teachers to both children and adolescent patients. Our classroom features computer access along with a large reading library of books for all skill levels.

    Services offered in the children and adolescent inpatient programs include:

    • Individual therapy
    • Daily examinations by Einstein Healthcare Network pediatricians
    • Group therapies
    • Family therapy
    • Creative arts therapy
    • Recreation therapy
    • Music therapy
    • Play therapy
    • Low ropes challenge course

    Inpatient Visiting Hours

    Children
    Monday-Friday: 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
    Weekends and holidays: 12 to 2 p.m. and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

    Adolescents
    Monday-Friday: 3:30 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 8:30 p.m.
    Weekends and holidays: 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., 3:30 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 8:30 p.m.

    Better Aftercare through Family and Community Involvement

    We are strongly committed to preparing the entire family for discharge and follow-up care. We do this by maintaining family involvement and therapy throughout treatment.

    To ensure greater aftercare success, Belmont reaches out to the community to develop behavioral goals and discharge plans with the patient in mind. We work in conjunction with institutions including:

    • Schools
    • Outpatient treatment centers and therapists
    • Community agencies and organizations

    Outpatient

    Belmont’s outpatient child psychologists and other specialists help treat a range of problems for patients, age 5- to 17 years-old.

    Outpatient therapies and services for children and adolescents are the same as for adults, including:

    • Psychological evaluation and assessment
    • Psychological testing
    • Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT)
    • Medication management

    Belmont’s Children and Adolescents Outpatient Unit specializes in:

    • Treatment by trained play therapists and trainees
    • Child psychotherapy
    • A separate child therapy room at Einstein Medical Center Philadelphia.
    • An outpatient parenting education therapy group for parents to learn more effective ways to parent their children.
