From the Chestnut Hill/Mount Airy Patch:
Emergency Medicine residents from Einstein Medical Center Philadelphia recently offered a first aid course in Chestnut Hill to Boy Scouts of America Pack #410 to prepare them for the Ready Man Badge. Spearheaded by Einstein physician Dr. Joseph Herres, he and his colleagues, Drs. Erin Noyes, Allison Chan, Doug Smith, and Megan Stobart-Gallagher, instructed the scouts in how to respond to medical emergencies they may encounter in the community. Using a basic life-support manikin, the scouts learned how to administer CPR, and were instructed in how to make splints, stop bleeding, tend to burns or frostbite, and administer the abdominal thrust (formerly known as the Heimlich Maneuver) on a person choking on food. The course was taught in two sessions and held at the Chestnut Hill office of Dr. Peter Fumo.
