  • Dr. Simona Rossi named Associate Chair of Hepatology

    PHILADELPHIA, April 10, 2013 – Simona Rossi, MD, has joined Einstein Healthcare Network as Associate Chair, Division of Hepatology.   Dr. Rossi is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and is a Diplomat of the American Board of Gastroenterology and of the American Board of Transplant Hepatology.

    “Dr. Rossi will play an integral role in growing Einstein’s Advanced Liver Disease and Transplantation Program,” said Victor Navarro, MD, Chair of the Division of Hepatology.  “She is an outstanding physician with a tremendous knowledge of liver disease and will be a great asset as we move forward.”

    Dr. Rossi has been a co-investigator for numerous clinical trials, including for an NIH-funded study of drug-induced liver disease, including liver injury resulting from dietary supplements.

    Other research projects pertained to treatment for hepatitis C and cirrhosis of the liver. 

    Prior to joining Einstein, Dr. Rossi was Assistant Professor of Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, where she supervised a large program in liver cancer.  She also supported Jefferson’s liver transplantation program and was the Associate Program Director for the Transplant Hepatology fellowship.  Her prior experience also includes overseeing hepatology training for gastroenterology fellows at Main Line Health System/Lankenau Hospital’s Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology.  

    Dr. Rossi earned her medical degree from Georgetown School of Medicine in Washington, DC, and completed an internship and residency in Internal Medicine from Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia.  She went on to complete a fellowship in Gastroenterology and Hepatology and a fellowship in Transplant Hepatology, both from Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. 

    She holds national appointments on the Women’s Representative Committee of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD) and is an AASLD representative to the Gastroenterology Women’s Coalition.

    Dr. Rossi sees patients at Einstein’s Center for Advanced Liver Disease and Transplantation, a regional program with multiple locations, including Einstein Medical Center Philadelphia and Einstein Medical Center Montgomery.
