As posted by theTimes HeraldEinstein Cancer Center is one of only seven oncology centers in the country recognized by the Conquer Cancer Foundation of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) for improving cancer care through high-quality clinical trials programs.In 2009, the Einstein Cancer Center was selected by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) to participate in the NCI Community Cancer Centers Program (NCCCP), a nationwide network dedicated to increasing access to cancer research and quality cancer care. Since joining the NCCCP, Einstein has increased participation in clinical trials making it possible for more patients to benefit from promising cancer treatments that are offered before they are made widely available to the general patient population. The Einstein Cancer Center currently sponsors 30 ongoing clinical trials in many different cancer types, including lung, breast, prostate, colorectal and liver cancers. Einstein Health Care Network.This year’s award recipients were selected based on several factors, including patient enrollment in clinical trials. Special consideration was given to centers that increased clinical trial participation among underrepresented populations, as well as those that use innovative techniques to overcome barriers to the enrollment of cancer patients in clinical trials.“As physicians, we want to offer our patients the best care available, and through clinical trials we’re able to bring more hope to patients while helping in the development of new therapies,” said William Tester, MD, FACP, Medical Director of Einstein Cancer Center. “We feel honored to be one of the centers selected for this award.”
