  • Einstein Healthcare Network and American Heart Association to Host Sugary Drink/Obesity Conference

    PHILADELPHIA (June 20, 2012 ) – Einstein Healthcare Network and the American Heart Association are hosting a conference for clinicians and community health leaders that will explore both clinical approaches and changes in policies and environments designed to reduce sugar-sweetened beverage consumption.

    Entitled “Rethink Your Drink”, the conference will be held Monday, June 25, from 8:00 am till noon at the Gouley Auditorium in Einstein Medical Center Philadelphia, located at 5501 Old York Road.

    As a result of “Rethink Your Drink”, attendees will be able to:

    • Discuss the impact of sugar-sweetened beverages on obesity, cardiovascular health and chronic diseases with their patients and parents/caregivers of their patients
    • Incorporate effective strategies and practical tools addressing obesity into visits for other acute/chronic problems or periodic health maintenance visits dealing with the reduction of sugar-sweetened beverage consumption
    • Share effective strategies for hospital environmental change with their colleagues
    • Work within hospital and other community settings to reduce consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages through policy, systems, and environmental change
