Einstein Healthcare Network, a leading healthcare provider and home of the largest independent academic medical center in the region, announced the following board appointments for fiscal year 2015:
Steven Berk, Esq., of Ardmore, Pa., was elected to a third term as Chairman of Einstein Healthcare Network’s Board of Trustees, the governing body of the organization, and Einstein Healthcare Network’s Board of Overseers which serves in an advisory and fundraising capacity. Berk is a partner in the law firm of Segal, Berk, Gaines & Liss in Philadelphia. He joined the Einstein board in 1983, at the time that the Philadelphia Psychiatric Center (PPC), now Belmont Behavioral Health, joined Einstein. He is the third generation of the Berk family involved with PPC/Belmont. Berk has served in many leadership positions at Einstein, including Chairman of the Belmont Board; Chairman of the Finance Committee and Board Treasurer; Member and Vice Chairman of the Einstein Healthcare Network Board of Trustees; and prior to being elected Chairman of the Board, he served as Chairman of the Healthcare Services Board of Trustees.
Bruce W. Koch of Philadelphia, was elected to a third term as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Einstein Healthcare Services. Koch is the Chief Financial Officer of the Starr Restaurant Organization. He has been a member of the Einstein Board since 1999 and has served in several leadership positions, including Chairman of the Quality Committee; member and Vice Chairman of the Einstein Healthcare Network Board of Trustees; and Chairman of the Audit Committee.
Clifford D. Schlesinger of Bryn Mawr, Pa., was elected to a third term as Chairman of the Einstein Physician Services Board of Trustees. He is a Managing Director in the Strategic Wealth Advisory Team of Goldman Sachs. Schlesinger was elected to the Einstein Board in 2010 and currently serves as a member and Vice Chairman of Einstein Healthcare Network’s Board of Trustees and as a member of the Development Committee.
Lewis I. Gantman of Wynnewood, Pa., was elected to his second term as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Einstein Medical Center Montgomery. He is Executive Vice President of Beverage Distribution Center, Inc., a large privately-owned bottler and distributor of nonalcoholic beverages. Gantman has been a member of the Einstein Board since 2002 and currently serves as a member and Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Einstein Healthcare Network. Most recently, he served as Chairman of the Finance Committee. Gantman also serves on the boards of many nonprofit institutions in the region, including the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia and Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation.
The following three new members were elected to Einstein Healthcare Network’s Board of Overseers:
Kimya S. P. Johnson, Esq., of Philadelphia, is the Director of Diversity, Inclusion and Pro Bono at the law firm of Cozen O’Connor. She serves as the “First Lady” of Bright Hope Baptist Church in Northeast Philadelphia and also sits on the Board of Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Southeastern PA. Johnson, who is a labor and employment attorney, was recognized by The Legal Intelligencer as a “Lawyer on the Fast Track” and was named a “PA Rising Star in Employment/Labor Law” by SuperLawyers Magazine. Johnson is a graduate of Spelman College; Columbia University; and Case Western Reserve University School of Law.
Samuel Klein of Philadelphia, is Director of Sustainability at Comfort Systems USA Energy Services. He helped found the Philadelphia Building Industry Association’s (BIA) Green Committee and served as Chair. Klein specializes in LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design which is a green building certification program that recognizes best-in-class building strategies and practices. Klein is continuing a family legacy in that his grandparents, Judith and the late Robert Klein, were long-time supporters of Einstein Healthcare Network.
Jill Powell of Bryn Mawr, Pa., was elected to the Board of Overseers in December 2013 and this year she joins the Einstein Medical Center Montgomery Board of Trustees. She is a Certified Public Accountant and supports the National Museum of American Jewish History, the Franklin Institute, and the Philadelphia Orchestra, among other organizations.
