Jerry Zuckerman, MD, Chief Quality and Patient Safety Officer
Jerry Zuckerman, MD, has been appointed Chief Quality and Patient Safety Officer for Einstein Healthcare Network announced Susan Bernini, Chief Operating Officer for Einstein Healthcare Network. Dr. Zuckerman has served as the Medical Director of Infection Prevention and Control for the past six years and as Interim Chief Quality Officer since May 2012.
In his new role, Dr. Zuckerman will have responsibility for all quality improvement and patient safety initiatives, as well as infection prevention and control activities for Einstein Medical Center Philadelphia, Einstein Medical Center Elkins Park, MossRehab, Belmont Center for Comprehensive Treatment, and Einstein Physicians, the network-owned primary care and specialty care practices.
“Over the course of Dr. Zuckerman’s career at Einstein, he has successfully led infection prevention and control programs, including reducing MRSA infections by using the Positive Deviance Approach to behavioral change and has promoted patient safety with the implementation of the Comprehensive Unit-Based Safety Program,” says Susan Bernini. “He has also spearheaded initiatives to promote employee safety.”
During his tenure at Einstein, Dr. Zuckerman has served on and led several administrative committees. In addition, he has served on advisory committees for the Philadelphia Department of Health and the Healthcare Improvement Foundation.
Dr. Zuckerman joined the Einstein faculty in the Division of Infectious Diseases in 1993 after earning a medical degree from Cornell University Medical College and completing an Internal Medicine Residency at Temple University Hospital and a fellowship in Infectious Diseases at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
