The Gutman Diabetes Institute at Einstein Medical Center Philadelphia is sponsoring a free diabetes self-management educational program on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Salvation Army Kroc Center, 4200 Wissahickon Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19129. Attendees will learn how to successfully manage their diabetes from Reggie Bishop, someone who has diabetes and understands the challenges people with the condition face. Mr. Bishop will share the self-management and lifestyle strategies that work for him and can help others reduce the risk of diabetes-related complications. Mr. Bishop will cover the following topics:• Overcoming fears surrounding diabetes• Achieving good glucose control• Learning effective self-management• Developing a balanced, healthy lifestyle• Finding resources for diabetes support Mr. Bishop is a member of the A1C Champions® Program, supported by Sanofi, which is a patient-led approach to diabetes education. The program is intended for people struggling with diabetes or who have an A1C that is 7% or above, or have a loved one with an A1C of 7% or above. The A1C test is a blood test that measures average blood glucose levels over the past two to three month period. The test is used to diagnose type 1 and type 2 diabetes and can determine how well a person is managing their diabetes.
