Einstein Healthcare Network recruited Dr. Jay Goldberg to serve as director of its newly established Philadelphia Fibroid Center at Einstein.

Goldberg is an internationally known fibroid expert who has lectured nationally and internationally on fibroids — benign tumors of muscular and fibrous tissues that typically developing in the wall of a women’s uterus.

Uterine fibroids commonly affect a women’s quality of life through abnormal uterine bleeding and pelvic pain, and can cause infertility.

Goldberg's written more than 75 peer-reviewed articles on the topic.

“Many patients will come to me and feel they don’t have any hope,” Goldberg said. “They’ve been diagnosed with fibroids and they’re told they don’t have options – they’ll never be able to conceive or they need to have a hysterectomy. Sometimes that may be true. But more often than not there are options for the patients.”

Prior to joining Einstein as vice chairman of obstetrics and gynecology and director of the Fibroid Center, Goldberg was a professor at Jefferson Medical College and the founder/director of the Jefferson Fibroid Center.
