The Center for Urban Health Policy and Research at Einstein Healthcare Network was honored with a Nourish Award from MANNA for their  research in food and nutrition. MANNA is a nonprofit community leader in Philadelphia that prepares and delivers nutritious meals to individuals with life-threatening illnesses. The Nourish Awards recognize groups, corporations, foundations or individuals who make a significant difference in the fields of healthcare and nutrition by advocating for the wellness of the body, mind and spirit.

The Center for Urban Health Policy and Research at Einstein supports and champions ways to improve health outcomes and promotes wellbeing, with particular emphasis on culturally diverse and special populations.  Etienne (Tina) Phipps, PhD, is the founding Director of the Center and for the last few years she and her team have provided consultation and assistance to MANNA around research design and evaluation of studies involving MANNA clients.

With Dr. Phipps at the helm, Einstein’s Center for Urban Health Policy and Research has built a solid foundation of research and consultation with funding from federal and state government agencies and foundations.  Throughout her career, Dr. Phipps has focused on improving the delivery of healthcare to diverse populations across the lifespan and promoting patient involvement in decisions about their own health.

The awards were presented at the recent Nourish Awards & Health Symposium titled Nourishment & Health Care Reform, Your Voice, Your Vote.  Campbell’s Soup Foundation and the SHARE Food Program were also honored.
