Leonard Braitman, PhD, was honored last week at Einstein Medical Center Philadelphia with the 2013 J. Stanley and Helene M. Cohen Prize for Research Excellence. Dr. Braitman, a biostatistician in the Office for Research and Technology Development, received the award during Einstein’s 25th Annual Research Recognition Day which is sponsored by the Einstein Healthcare Network Medical Staff Board and the Office of Research and Technology Development, and Academic Affairs. Since joining Einstein in 1992, Dr. Braitman has applied his expertise in statistical design and analysis to studies in partnership with Einstein residents, faculty and staff, and has been an invaluable mentor. As a statistical editor, he collaborated with physician editors evaluating and editing medical manuscripts at Annals of Internal Medicine for 25 years. Dr. Braitman is highly-regarded throughout academic circles and his published works in biostatistical literature are considered classics in the field. In addition to teaching his annual biostatistics course, Dr. Braitman helps to strengthen the study designs of research projects and provides data analyses that allows for Einstein’s research to be presented at national and international meetings and through publications.
