PHILADELPHIA (October 8, 2012) - An estimated 1.6 million sports-related concussions occur every year. Athletes of all ages—from pee wees to the pros—return to their sport without fully recovering, and are likely to receive another, more devastating concussion.
MossRehab is devoted to curbing this epidemic.
On Wednesday, November 14, MossRehab's Michael Marino, MD, Attending Physician of the Drucker Brain Injury Center will talk about concussions and their possible complications at the Access Sports "An Inside Look: Sports Concussions" presentation and breakfast at Villanova University. MossRehab is also a sponsor of this important discussion.
Dr. Marino will be joined on the panel by former Philadelphia Eagle Vince Papale and his wife Janet—a former U.S. World Gymnastics team member—who will talk about concussions as athletes and parents as their son Vincent has had concussions. Jim Britt,Vice President & COO of the Ed Snider Youth Hockey Foundation will address concussion awareness in youth hockey. Vince Nicastro Athletic Director of Villanova University and Rosemarie Moser, PhD, Director of the Sports Concussion Center of New Jersey and concussion doctor for the Philadelphia Soul, will participate in a Q&A panel discussion lead by Dr. Marino (who will also be adding his insight) which will address inquiries from event participants.
Access Sports "An Inside Look: Sports Concussions" is $35 per person and will be held from 7:00 a.m. till 10:30 a.m. at Villanova's Driscoll Auditorium. All proceeds will benefit Access Sports, a local nonprofit that works to expose at-risk youth or those with disabilities to sports through tickets to sporting events, adaptive sports and educational programs. Pre-registration is necessary for attendees and can be done at AnInsideLook.eventbrite.com.
