MossRehab, the largest provider of inpatient and outpatient physical and cognitive rehabilitation in the Philadelphia region has a simple but strong motto when it comes to helping patients and the disabled community: Challenge Accepted. So for the third year in a row, when organizers of They Will Surf Again—a free, one-day event that gets people with spinal cord injuries into the ocean and riding waves with the help of volunteers and special, adaptive surf boards—asked MossRehab therapists to share their professional expertise on their personal time, they simply accepted the challenge. On Saturday, June 15, from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm a volunteer corps of MossRehab therapists, staff and supporters will hit the beach at Rambler Road in Wildwood Crest NJ, to help participants with disabilities get up and down the beach, in and out of wetsuits and will assist surfers in the water as they ride the waves. MossRehab is also an official sponsor of They Will Surf Again for the second year in a row. (See a video from last year's They Will Surf Again.)“We’re thrilled to have an organization like MossRehab involved with us for the third year in a row,” said Chad DeSatnick who organizes They Will Surf Again events in New Jersey. “MossRehab therapists know the proper techniques for handling persons with disabilities, which allows surfers to maintain their dignity if they fall off their surfboard and need to be put back on, or need help getting in and out of wheelchairs. That makes the experience that much better for our surfers.”The public is invited to attend the event, meet volunteers and surfers and learn about living active lifestyles with disabilities. They Will Surf Again is the flagship program of Life Rolls On, a non-profit that serves as a resource and advocate for young people whose lives have been affected by spinal cord injury (SCI). Life Rolls On utilizes action sports to push the boundary of possibility for those with SCIs. (www.liferollson.org.)
