MossRehab, a provider of inpatient and outpatient physical and cognitive rehabilitation in the Philadelphia region, announced May 30 that it will host They Will Surf Again -- a free, one-day adapted surfing event -- on Sat. June 15 in Wildwood Crest, NJ. The event will feature double the amount of volunteers as last year's event and an official sponsorship, according to a press release. A team of 40 MossRehab therapists, staff and supporters will help participants with disabilities get up and down the beach, in and out of wetsuits, and on and off of specially adapted surfboards. "We're thrilled to have an organization like MossRehab involved with us again this year," said Chad DeSatnick, organizer of They Will Surf Again events in New Jersey. "To have actual therapists who can physically handle people with disabilities with the proper techniques and dignity, say if a surfer falls off their board for instance, makes the experience that much better for surfers." The public is invited to attend the event, meet volunteers and surfers, and learn about living with disabilities. They Will Surf Again is the flagship program of Life Rolls On, a non-profit supporting action sports for young people with spinal cord injury (SCI). (See this article on the Advance website here.)
