PHILADELPHIA (December 10, 2012) – Ruth Lefton, COO of MossRehab—a member of the Einstein Healthcare Network—has announced that the Otto Haas Charitable Trust has made a $1 million grant to establish the John Otto Haas Chair in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
“We are grateful for the generosity of the Otto Haas Charitable Trust,” said Alberto Esquenazi, MD, Chief Medical Officer of MossRehab and Director of the Sheerr Gait and Motion Analysis Laboratory who was named the inaugural holder of the new Chair. “This grant will allow us to create a lecture series where we can host national and international leaders in rehabilitation, allowing their knowledge to be shared throughout the community of rehabilitation clinicians.”
The establishment of the John Otto Haas Chair of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation will enable MossRehab to send the organization’s doctors to hospitals throughout Europe and the world to work with and learn from other top leaders in rehabilitation and physical medicine. “And of course, we’ll be able to bring those doctors here,” added Dr. Esquenazi. “These types of collaborations could lead to some remarkable innovations.”
The recommendation for the grant was made by John Otto Haas and his wife Janet who are both very familiar with MossRehab. John received care at the facility and Janet, an MD, is a physical rehabilitation and brain injury specialist who worked at MossRehab nearly 25 years ago.
“Janet and I are delighted to be affiliated with MossRehab and advance its research of rehabilitation medicine,” said John Otto Haas. “Physical medicine and rehabilitation has always been an important topic in our family. In the past, I had occasion to need the services at MossRehab. I always felt fortunate to be able to go to MossRehab where I could receive, what always seemed to me to be, the best care in the world.”
