Our own Dietitian, Theresa Shank, has shared some of her delicious and nutritious smoothie recipes to keep you cool and healthy this spring and summer.Simple Cold Blueberry Oatmeal BreakfastMakes 3 servings2 1/2 cups rolled oats1 cup fat free plain Greek yogurt2 tbsp chia seeds2 cups blueberries (fresh or frozen)2 cups unsweetened almond milk4 scoops vanilla Whey To Go protein powder (optional, available at whole foods)Directions1. Combine all the ingredients in a large mixing bowl.2. Mix thoroughly until protein powder has dissolved3. Portion, equally, into 3 mason jars4. Cover mason jars and place in the refrigerator. It is best to let them sit for 60 minutes before eating so that the oats can soak up the liquid, overnight is betterStrawberry Avocado Smoothie¼ Cup fat free milk¾ Cup Greek yogurt 1 Whole banana1 ½ Cup frozen strawberries¼ avocado¼ tsp Vanilla extractDirectionsPour the milk onto the blades of the blender, followed by the yogurt. If you want a thinner consistency, add more milk. Add the peeled banana and avocado, and then blend the mixture. When the mix is completely blended, add the frozen strawberries and blend until smooth. Peanut Butter and Banana SmoothieIngredients3/4 Cup Greek yogurt2 Tbsp All Natural Peanut Butter1 Banana1/8 Cup milk3/4 Cup iceDirectionsAdd the milk, yogurt, and banana; blend. Add the peanut butter (smooth or crunchy) and blend again. Lastly, blend in desired amount of ice; the more ice, the thicker the consistency. Broccoli Blueberry SmoothieIngredients:1 cup of frozen blueberries1/2 cup of steamed broccoli1/2 cup of unsweetened cranberry juice1/2 cup of plain non fat Greek yogurtDirectionsBlend and combine to make 1 smoothie. Add strawberries or blackberries for an additional burst of nutrition.Sweet Veggie SmoothieIngredients:½ cup apple juice1 cup of sliced apple1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce1/2 cup sliced carrots1/2 cup of cucumber (peeled and sliced)2 cups of ice1 dash of nutmeg or cinnamon (optional)DirectionsBlend this vegetable smoothie until smooth. Adding the nutmeg and cinnamon will give it great fragrance.Berry Berry Good SmoothieIngredients:1/2 raspberries1/2 cup strawberries1/2 cup blueberries1 cup fat free milk2 cups ice1 small shredded carrotDirectionsBlend until smoothAn Apple A Day Green SmoothieIngredientsa. 3/4 cup yogurtb. 1/4 fat free milkc. 1 apple, coredd. 3″ cucumber (about 1/2 cucumber)e. 1 cup spinachf. 1/4 cup cashewsg. 1 tsp vanillah. 1/2 tsp cinnamoni. 1/8 tsp nutmeg, cardamom, allspice (optional)DirectionsAdd all the ingredients to a blenderStart on a low speed, slowly increasing to highBlend until smooth
